Shoemaker, June 1978. Butler Cemetery "A WPA project of 1940 indicated a Butler cemetery existed on Piketon Rd., Madison Tp., Scioto Co., Ohio. However, telephone calls to the older residents in this area failed to product any more information that might help to locate the cemetery." I searched the Portsmouth Times for Butler Cemetery and came up with six obits dated between 1950 and 1964 that stated the burials were to be in Butler Cemetery. Upon looking up the names of the deceased, I found all of their tombstone inscriptions in the listing for Martins Cemetery. My supposition is that Butler was renamed possibly?? So here is the location of Martins Cemetery per the same publication: Martins Cemetery is located 1.8 miles north of Minford on S. R. 335, then 2 miles east on Piketon Road, Madison Tp., Scioto Co., Ohio. Some of the old stones are broken off, but the cemetery is kept in fairly good condition, and is still being used for burials. The oldest stone is Julia Rockwell's (1821). Inscriptions copied June 5, 1977 by Caryn Shoemaker. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
