Fallen Timber is an area in the NE corner of Jefferson Twp. It is not a defined area you can find on a map. It is not a community of homes close together. Evans, in his 1903 History of Scioto County, describes this part of Jefferson Twp as "very hilly & rough. Fallen Timber Valley is narrow but contains some good farms." (When I think of Fallen Timber I think of the hilly area-and they really are steep, wooded hills with winding roads across the tops of the hills. People speak of living "on" Fallen Timber, not "in" Fallen Timber. Evans adds, "The Fallen Timber school had 60 pupils. The Fallen Timber Christian Church was organized in 1865 & membership is nearly 100. The Jacobs Cemetery is located on Fallen Timber Run. None of the old pioneer graves can be found in this." (The 1 room school was in use until at least 1933. Several of the teachers at different times were from Lucasvill! e. I have never been to the cemetery, but it must be fairly large & currently in use per Vol II Cemetery Inscriptions of Scioto County. I have no idea where the name Fallen Timber came from but a nearby area was called Flat Woods, so the entire area must have been heavily timbered at one time. Hope this helps.
