The last was the most useful, it is the Helen Wright papers. She researched the erroneous connection to the William Bates who married Rebecca Tomlinson and concluded there was no evidence that he moved north and considerable evidence that there were several William Bates who stayed in Gloucester County. From her papers I discovered where Ephraim Bates lived in Pequannock Township, a little north of Rockaway near Cranbury Pond, which no longer exists but can be found in the 1868 maps, where there are several Clarks. Also found out that Rebecca Tomlinson was a widow. It seems she was born Rebecca Wills in 1705, married Willaim Tomlinson in 1731, he died in 1736 and she remarried to William Bates in 1741. The Clara Ball one I did not find much, but I have not seen the charts she made. I have to ask them to get them out of storage before I go to the historical society again. Hoping to find more on Mary Ball! who married William Bates. Why are you interested in the Stiles Family? The other two, the dates are too late for Ephraim, as he left Pequannock NJ in 1772. At some time I plan to go to Princeton to look at Rev Jacob Green's Diary that covers the time when William and Ephraim would have attended his church.
