The child, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Rickett, died at Mercy Hospital at Portsmouth where he was admitted at 6:10p.m. The accident happened at 5:45p.m. in front of the Morgan Skaggs grocery at the intersection of Route 59 and Town Branch road. It was reported the Rickett boy was coming from the store with a pop bottle and darted in front of a southbound automonile driven on route 59 by Michael Norelka(?), 27, of Waukesha, Wis. State Trooper Hubert Jarvis said the child suffered a fractured skull and compound fractures of the right leg and arm. His death raised Lewis County's 1962 traffic toll to four. It was held that the accident was unavoidable. Norelka, a student at Morehead (Ky.) State College, was not charged. The boy was born in Lewis County March 8, 19??,(could be 59 or 60)a son of Thomas and Betty Cottingham Rickett. Surviving besides the parents are a brother, Thomas Eugene, and three sisters, Bonnie, Brenda and Beverly, all at home; paternal grandfather, Greene Rickett of Petersville, Ky., and the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Cottingham of Vanceburg. Funeral services are to be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Vanceburg Christian Baptist Church. Rev. Jack Fletcher is to officiate, with interment in McEldowney Cemetery at Stricklett under direction of Dickerson Funeral Home at Vanceburg. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4p.m. today.
