I hope the enclosed information provides you with enough clues to locate a blood relation of DAVID FRANKLIN MERSHON for DNA. He married Tisha SWORDS circa 1904. She was born circa 1887 and died 10 September 1965 in Fostoria, Ohio. Obits for both are included herein. After Athel's death Tisha remarried first William H. Cremeans, (1870-1919) and second Charles Warnica(1878-1950). Children of Athel and Tisha MERSHON: i. Frederick Richard MERSHON, b. 28 June 1904 d. 01 September 1994 in Scioto County. I believe he had a son named Raymond L. Mershon who died in California May 10, 2007. (Details of Raymond's descendants included in his obit) ii. Elmer MERSHON, b. Juanita Belle MERSHON, b. 17 Aug 1929 d. 18 April 1987 in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles County, California. She married a Mr. MURPHY. iii. David Franklin MERSHON b. 05 Oct 1931 (per the birth announcement in the Portsmouth Times published 8 Oct 1931). d. 1950 in Korea Gladys MERSHON b. 09 Feb 1911, d. 02 May 2006 in Fostoria, Ohio. She married Samuel Myers HARTMAN in Greenup, KY. Children of Gladys and Samuel are: i. Stephen Dean HARTMAN ii. Robert Lee HARTMAN PORTSMOUTH TIMES-September 20, 1913-page 6 ATHOL MERSHON-Born May 23, 1883. Died Sept. 12, 1913. Age 30 years, 3 months 10 days. Although he had never united with any church thirty days prior to his death he made a full confession of Christianity beseeching his loved ones to meet him in the world beyond the grave. Being of a cheerful disposition he had many friends who will mourn his loss. To his parents he was an obedient child, to his wife a dutiful husband, to his children a painstaking and beloved father. The duration of his illness dated from the latter part of March, from measles through exposure during the recent flood he contracted a cold which later developed into tuberculosis. He is survived a wife, three children, Fred aged 9, Elmer aged 7 and Gladys aged 3, a father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. MERSHON of Pond Creek, two brothers, Clay of Pond Creek and A. J. MERSHON Jr. of Portsmouth and one sister, Mrs. C. R. SCOTT of Portsmouth. PORTSMOUTH TIMES-September 11, 1965-Saturday-Page 15 MRS. TISHA WARNICA, 78, of Fostoria, died at 7p.m. Friday at a hospital there. She was a former resident of West Portsmouth. Funeral services are to be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Roger W. Davis Funeral Home. Burial is to be in Mershon Cemetery at Pond Creek. PORTSMOUTH TIMES-November 20, 1970-Friday-page 11 ELMER MERSHON, 64, of 1543 Washington Blvd., West Portsmouth, died Thursday in Scioto Memorial Hospital. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Geraldine Blaine Mershon; two daughters Mrs. Esther HORVATICH of California and Mrs. Juanita MURPHY of New York; a brother, Fred, 1413 Fifth St., West Portsmouth; a sister, Mrs. Gladys HARTMAN of Fostoria and five grandchildren. Services are to be conducted Sunday a t 2p.m. at Roger W. Davis Funeral Home with Rev. Ogra Creech officiating. Interment is to be in Mershon Cemetery. THE NEWS MESSENGER-Fremont Ohio-May 5 2006 GLADYS MARIE HARTMAN, Feb 9, 1911 -May 2, 2006 Gladys Marie Hartman, 95, of Fostoria died at 12:18 p.m. Tuesday at her son's home in Fostoria. Gladys was born at home in Portsmouth to the late Athel and Tisha (SWORDS) MERSHON.She married Samuel Myers HARTMAN and he died in November 1970. One son, Charles Myers HARTMAN, and two brothers, Elmer and Fred MERSHON, also preceded her in death. Those left to cherish her memory are two sons and their wives, Stephen Dean and Linda HARTMAN, Fremont, and Robert Lee and Clara of Fostoria, 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews including, Dea, Roger and Raymond MERSHON and Esther HORVATICH. Services Saturday at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Portage Township. PORTSMOUTH TIMES-May 15, 2007 RAYMOND L. MERSHON, 64, originally of West Portsmouth, Ohio, died Thursday, May 10, 2007, in Cool, Calif. He was born July 2, 1942, son of the late Frederick MERSHON AND Sally Mershon. Raymond served three years in the Army and was a retired employee of Reynolds Aluminum. He is survived by his wife, Gale MERSHON; a son, Scott; a grandchild; a great-grandchild; three brothers by Sally MERSHON, Dee, Dale and Roger MERSHON; four brothers by Mary MERSHON (father's second wife), Tim, Richard, Frederick and Steven MERSHON; two sister, Rosemary McCOY and Karen JOURNEY; and many nieces and nephews. Arrangements under the direction of Green Valley Mortuary and Cemetery, Cameron Park, 3004 Alexandrite Road, Rescue, Calif.
