Scioto County has a tremendous amount of resource available for genealogy research. The place to start is www.sccogs.com, which is the web presence for the Scioto County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogy Society. I've found this to have excellent resources available though you may have to wander around the site a bit to find what you're looking for. Much of the SCCOGS holdings are located at the Portsmouth Public Library. Here are two lists posted at their website: www.sccogs.com/holdings.htm and www.sccogs.com/famhx.htm The Portsmouth Public Library (located at 1220 Gallia Street, Portsmouth, Ohio 45662, telephone (740) 354-5688), is the headquarters for research on site in the County. They also have a growing website at www.portsmouth.lib.oh.us that offers indexes online to relevant resources such as cemeteries, wills and marriage records. www.portsmouth.lib.oh.us/localhistory.cfm contains more details about the library holdings, services etc. My wife and I visited the library a couple of years ago to make use of the resources offered. You will find it fairly extensive and the staff quite helpful. A couple of great online resources located at www.scioto.org (their index is at www.scioto.org/Scioto/catalogs/catalog.html): SCIOTO COUNTY OHIO MARRIAGE RECORDS, 1800-1900 <http://www.scioto.org/Scioto/catalogs/marriagecatalog.html>www.scioto.org/Scioto/catalogs/marriagecatalog.<http://www.scioto.org/Scioto/catalogs/marriagecatalog.html>html DEATH RECORDS OF SCIOTO COUNTY, 1803-1860 <http://www.scioto.org/Scioto/Death/WLP/introduction.html>www<http://www.scioto.org/Scioto/Death/WLP/introduction.html>.scioto.org/Scioto/Death/WLP/introduction.html I hope you find that helpful!
