I am a new subscriber looking for help with the 1870 Scioto census. I need a lookup for a James Mullins who would be about 62 years old from VA. Any help appreciated. Richard

Hi Richard: My 1870 census index for Scioto does not have a James Mullins. I tried various spellings (Mullens, Mallens, Millins, etc.) and came up with only one name that was close. JAMES MALLEN, age 64, born in Ohio, living with daughter. The household he was living with were named RYAN. Richard, 57, Laborer---Mary, 54, Keeps House---Dennis, 23, works livery stable-Mike, 18, laborer-Elizabeth, 20, helps mother-Mary, 16, attending school-Danniel, 14, attending school. 1st Ward, Portsmouth, page 525.
