    1. CRIMINALS - September 18, 1880 - Portsmouth Times
    2. Transcribed without making changes to spelling and grammar. Transcribed by Joyce Robinson The Portsmouth Times Dated: September 18, 1880 List of the Criminals Boarding at the County's Espense. MOLLIE MOULTON, an African belle, is the only female at the jail. On or about July 28, A.D. 1880, Mollie, after flourishing a razor in the torrid atmosphere, brought the keen blade in contact with MELIA ANGLE, another belle an Afrique, cutting with intent to kill, and the gentle Mollie will take a trip to Columbus. REASON CRABTREE, Esq., is the next on the list and will plead guilty or not guilty to perjury at the fall term of Court. He, with a young lady whose name is not at hand, swore a young one, which turns out to have been his own legitimate progeny, on Mr. WASHINGTON NOEL. Reason's chances are good --- for going to the "pen." ABRAHAM HILES, burglary; not a very strong case. WM. HOLBERT is charged with entering a house at Haverhill and becoming unlawfully possessed of a portion of his neighbor's wordly (sic) goods. He admits the charge and will don a zebra costume. TONY WILLIAMS is a gentleman of color from Baltimo-ah (sic), and stole a brother Afro-American's watch. The time divider was constructed on a bard-pan basis, and not being very valuable, Tony will answer to the Probate Court for petty larceny. HENRY FAGAN had the brass to enter the Scioto Valley car shope (sic) after darkness had enveloped the earth, and carried away some brass. Henry will be one of the Scioto delegation in the O. P. TAYLOR ALEXANDER is a high-toned and refined thief, who means well. He stole some diamonds and other jewelry from the Biggs House. Taylor will go on a tour to Columbus. CHAS. WOODARD lives in Nile township. He borrowed his neighbor's coat and forgot to return it. Charge, petty larceny. GEO. McGILL is eating out his fine and costs for beating a darkey (sic). ALBERT GRAY, cutting with intent to kill, is the next name on the record. Albert made an unsuccessful attempt to reduce the size of WM. McGRAW with a razor. After being at large for several weeks, the carver was captured in the hills ten miles back of Ironton. There is a good case against him.
