According to his Civil War enlistment papers, my great-grandfather, Levi Tillman HISE was born in Scioto Co. OH 6/3/1821. By 3/14/1841 he was in Vermilion Co. IL, where he married Eliza Jane Gritton b. abt. 1821 in KY. In the 1820 census there are a couple of HISE families in Scioto Co. OH and I believe Levi may be the son of Aaron and Anna Turner Hise. These families migrated in 1820-30 to Parke and Vermillion Counties, IN and from there to Vermilion Co. IL. I have been unsuccessful in locating a will for Aaron (who died sometime between the1860 and 1870 census of Parke Co.
