Hello everyone. I found this the other day and thought I would pass the information along in case anyone here was interested. The 1860 Mortality schedule is available on CD rom for Scioto county. I’ve heard of this, but I’ve never actually seen it before. It sounds interesting. Gen. Society has done new readings of cemeteries and I believe they are about to publish a new bk. for Nile Twp. I have the old bk. published in 1984 that was done by Caryn Shoemaker. It only gives 3 names for Metzger Cem.: Janie Metzger, Donnathan Winters, and Infant Daughter Saddler. Shoemaker notes that the cemetery was visited in 1981 by Wilma Jarrells (from whom she apparently got the info. about the 3 burials) and that she isn't sure whether Jarrells actually found gravestones or acquired the info. from family relatives. The map of Nile Twp. in the cemetery bk. shows another cemetery on Pond Run: Cooper #3. (There are 2 other Cooper Cems. located elsewhere in Nile Twp. according to the map.) The bk. has no listings for Cooper #3. It says it may also be known as Pond Run Cemetery and that WPA workers visited it in 1938 and recorded 8 unmarked graves. More bad news for you is that there is no one named Thorne in the index to the 1984 Nile Cem. bk. I also checked the cemetery bks. for neighboring Union and Washington Twps. in Scioto Co. and for Green Twp. Adams Co. but found no one named Thorne. I found a couple of Thorntons in Union Twp. but no Augustine. Perhaps there is no stone or the stone was missed when the old readings were done. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Has anyone photographed this cemetery? Per posted information it was surveyed in April 1980 by Duane F. Shoemaker and it is located near Lick Run-Lyra Rd., about 3 miles from Wheelersburg, in Vernon Twp., Scioto Co., Ohio. STEWART Sharon R. Stewart, 64, of Wheelersburg, a longtime Columbus resident, died Saturday, May 3, 2008 at King's Daughter Medical Center in Ashland, KY. Sharon was born March 9, 1944 in Portsmouth, a daughter of the late Virgil A. Stewart and LaNola Lemon Stewart. Sharon was a 1962 graduate of Wheelersburg High School and retired from Borden's. Surviving are one sister, Patsy Graff and husband Alan of Wheelersburg; one brother, Larry Stewart of Wheelsburg; two nephews, Andrew and David Graff; one niece, Katherine Graff; and one great-niece, Emily Graff. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at the SWICK-BUSSA-CHAMBERLIN FUNERAL HOME in Wheelersburg with Steve Miller officiating, with burial at Vernon Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and 1 hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the Funeral Home.
