Hi Mary.....My Mother's family, both sides are from your area. Katherine Sampson Browne....my Mother...daughter of Jacob Nichols Sampson....son of William Asbury Sampson (born 1829) son of Sarah Sheperd (sp?)Beauchamp...daughter of John Beauchamp. On the Fullerton side, Florence Adell Fullerton Sampson....daughter of Morris Fullerton....son of John Fullerton. Florence Adell's Mother was Margaret Bradshaw Galford. She was daughter of William Galford.....son of John Thomas Galford. I have recently ordered "History of Lower Scioto Valley" which has been reprinted. I have a couple pages (copies) sent to a cousin by a Mrs. Ruth Crabtree some years ago. I have been particularly frustrated in finding a birth record for William Asbury Sampson. Records we have shows him living with a step-father John Hubbard Brown (husband of Sarah S. B. at the time of his marriage to Ariette O. Smith. Do you know any of these people or descendants of theirs. I'd love to be able to make contact with some of them. Betty J. Faulkner 151 Dogleg Lane, Port Ludow, Washington 98365.....360/437-5116 [email protected] thanks for the response. Hello Dear Scioto List, I am Nola (Eversole) Thacker. I am researching DENNIS, MANNING, SEXTON, LAWSON, DONATHAN, WARD, THACKER, BROOKS, ZORNES, and some other lines. Right now, I'm joining this list, because I believe one of my grandfather's sisters may have moved to Portsmouth prior to her death. Her name was Mary Alice Dennis. I think that she married an Aflred Manning. Mary Alice Dennis was born about 1863 in the Morgan/Rowan County, Kentucky area. Her father was Greenberry Dennis and her mother was Nancy Emaline Manning Dennis. Much of the rest of the family moved from Rowan County in the early 1900s and settled in Ashland, KY. I'm hoping that someone on this list may have Mary A. Dennis Manning in their line, if she indeed married into the Manning family and lived in Portsmouth. Thanks in advance for any help, nola thacker austin, tx [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, February 15, 2004 7:01 PM Subject: OHSCIOTO-D Digest V04 #7

Hello! I'm new to this list. I have been researching the Griffith family. I found that a family member, Elizabeth (Madill) Griffith, was living with her daughter, Ella (Griffith) Williams and her husband, Charles Williams in 1900 in Green Township, Scioto County. I know that she was buried in Ashland, Boyd County, Ohio, which was where her husband, David Griffith, was buried. I would like to see if I can find an obituary for Elizabeth. Where would I start looking? What newspapers were being published in Scioto County at the time? Would her obituary likely have been published there? I do know that Ironton, Lawrence County, Ohio had a paper at the time as well? Can anyone make any recommendations for me? Thanks ever so much for any help! - Jean Griesan

The History of the Lower Scioto Valley (reprint 1884) is for sale at SCCOGS or from our fellow list member and publisher, Barbara Gargiulo, at www.littlemiamibooks.com. The History of Scioto County by Nelson Evans (reprint of 1903) is a different 2 volume set for sale at www.higginsonbooks.com. Sometimes you can save a few dollars on the Evans books by checking EBAY. Leslie..I know that the "History of Scioto County ,Ohio 1903 "by Nelson Evans is available at the Portsmouth Library and I think the Lucasville Library. The "Lucasvillle Ohio Sesquicentennial 1819-1969 " Book is at the Lucasville Library and it is the one with the picture of Flatwoods School. I really don't know if you can still buy these books but they are both really interesting . Mary
Leslie..there was a school near the Stoney Hill Cemetary called Flatwoods School. In "History of Scioto County,Ohio , 1903" by Nelson Evans , he said that this school was fairly new so I am guessing it was built around 1900. Also in "Lucasville, Ohio Sesquisentennial, 1819-1969" there is a photo of Flatwoods School with a lot of students and the teacher Nellie Kearnes standing in front. Hope this helps. Mary

I know from her obit that Sarah M. WHITE was born April 18, 1842 in Wheelersburg, Scioto Co., OH and was married to Ezekiel F. COOPER on Sept. 26, 1861 in Jackson Co., OH. Her daughter (my g-grandmother) Carrie was born in Ohio in 1864, but the next child Frank was born in Iowa in 1864. The other four kids ( Ella, Edward Alice Grace, and unknown) were all born in Kansas. Does anyone connect with Sarah or Ezekiel? I have no clue to their parents names or siblings. Any help greatly appreciated. Betty
I just saw something listed on ebay. It was an Ohio Bicentennial Bear. It might be something some of you might be interested in having with Ohio connections.
