    3. Vince: Have you tried the web site (Scioto.org) under biographies and also under Township information? I also found an article published in the Portsmouth Daily Times newspaper , on December 16, 1893 about a Charles A. Stockham which said he was born in Portsmouth 38 years ago (which would have made him born abt. 1855) quite a nice article about him being raised in Scioto County. It states that he was th emost popular engineer on the Western and Southern rivers. Is this your Charles and would you like for me to type that article out for you? Is is very faint and will not transfer well? Let me know and I'll send it to you. 1. SPRINGVILLE, KY.
    2. Thank you for the replies to me inquiry concerning the whereabouts of Springville, KY. I understand that it is now known as South Portsmouth, KY. My G-Grandpa, Robert K. GRAY (b. 1837) married Isabella (DAWNEY) MILLER (b. abt. 1842). The 1860 census shows that she was apparently separated from Mr. MILLER, and living in Springville with her mother, Isabella DAWNEY and two brothers, Joseph and John DAWNEY. G-Grandpa GRAY was a Steamboat Mate and he married Isabella in 1863, and soon the rest of her family moved from Springville to Portsmouth. I have a pretty good handle on the family from then on through the 1880 Portsmouth census. The City Directories in your wonderful Portsmouth library show that Robert K. GRAY was a Mate on the Fannie Dugan in tyhe 1870s. My problem is that I have no idea when (or where) these Great-grandparents died, or where they were buried. I have a strong hunch that the dates of death were somewhere around 1890. If somebody could steer me in the right direction I would be most grateful. 1. Turner
    2. Is anyone researching a TURNER (possibly George) family who were in Scioto Co. as early as 1810? My ancestor, Anna or Rosanna TURNER, married Aaron HISE 3/23/1820 in Scioto County. According to later information from her children, she was supposedly born in Germany. If this is true, I would imagine that her name is an Americanized version of a German name. Does anyone have any idea what that name might be?
