- ---------------------------------------------------------------- FORWARDED MESSAGE - Orig: 9-Aug-99 17:04 Subject: Submission for consideration to Ohio's GenWeb Page - ---------------------------------------------------------------- From: Greg Reeves <[email protected]> Hi Maggie: You folks have a nice website over "there" at the Ohio GenWeb project. Congratulations on a job well-done! I recently have uploaded a completely free database onto the 'Net that I'd like for you'all to consider adding a "hotlink" on your site to. It's entiled "Ohio Soldiers Aboard the 1865 Sultana" and it contains the name, rank, company & regiment of 652 paroled (Union) U.S. Civil War soldiers from Ohio who were aboard the steamship Sultana when her boilers exploded early on the morning of April 27, 1865 just nine miles north of Memphis, TN on the Mississippi River. Maggie, at least 210 of those brave 'Buckeyes' died in what remains even today as America's worst-ever maritime tragedy, a disaster that likely took the lives of over 1,500 souls-----even more than were lost on the Titanic just 47 years later! Because *so many* were lost, I believe that the site will be of immense value to any serious genealogist searching for "lost" ancestors from Ohio. A simple link would be great but a more prominent (temporary) "showcasing" of the database on your site would be wonderful and *very* much appreciated. You can review it for consideration at URL: http://www.rapidnet.com/~greg/Sultana/OH/OHSult.html Thanks Greg Reeves ANDERSONVILLE-L and SULTANA-L Listowner, SultanaRing Ringmaster see: http://www.rapidnet.com/~greg/Tom [email protected] !^NavFont02F057D0007NGHHL7FEDEE
