As to your question about your grandfathers, the best answer I could give you at this time is to try to get to the Hayes Presidential Center Library in Fremont. They have a CW data base with all the information regarding any Ohio CW soldier. From there I would suggest getting forms from the National Archives in Washington, DC to obtain your great-grandfather's war pension papers and his war enlistment and muster papers. Where are you located in relation to Clyde and Fremont? I live in Port Clinton. As you are a direct descendant of a Union soldier, you are eligible for membership in the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War. I am president of a local Tent. It is a national organization.
