    3. The Ohio Auto Club (AAA) Office gave us a map of Sandusky County. The cemeteries are shown on the map. Oakwood is on Oakwood St., southwest corner of Fremont. The Chamber of Commerce usually have maps also. Good luck on your hunt. JM Marc Mowry wrote: > > Hi, I am hoping someone can help me. 1. MICHLES and WOLF in Freemont
    2. To: Kay Wolf Re: MICHLES Dear Kay, Go to www.ancestry.com They have the Social Security Death Index. SSDI gives only 17 MICHLES. There is LOUIS MICHLES, born 30 May 1899, died Feb 1966 , residence was zip code 43420 (Fremont, Sandusky, OH) (No Location Given for his last benefit. His Soc. Sec. number was issued in Indiana (Before 1951). His number is in the records there on Ancestry.com (I won't list the number here.) The first three numbers of his SS# were 304. It is possible to know the county in Indiana by matching his 304 with other people in the area. For example, you could type a common name like Johnson and search Indiana, and see what city matches the 304 (first 3 numbers of the Social Security number). For WOLF, in a two county phone book, we have spellings WOLF, WOLFE, WOLFF. Cyndy Shreffler in Troy, Ohio ([email protected])

    1. Memorial Day
    2. David Zimmerman
    3. From: Claudette Rogers <[email protected]> This was sent to one of my genealogy list and it really made me think... Claudette <<Saw this poem in a letter to the Editor of the West Side Leader(suburban Akron, Ohio), and it pretty well sums up why genealogists have such a soft spot in their hearts for old cemeteries. The Recording of a Cemetery by Thelma Greene Reagan Today we walked where others walked On a lonely, windswept hill; Today we talked where others cried For Loved Ones whose lives are stilled. Today our hearts were touched By graves of tiny babies; Snatched from the arms of loving kin, In the heartbreak of the ages. Today we saw where the grandparents lay In the last sleep of their time; Lying under the trees and clouds - Their beds kissed by the sun and wind. Today we wondered about an unmarked spot; Who lies beneath this hollowed ground? Was it a babe, child, young or old? No indication could be found. Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay. We had been here once before On a day we'd all like to forget, But will remember forever more. Today we recorded for kith and kin The graves of ancestors past; To be treasured for generations hence, A record we hope will last. Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend, For stones sometimes crumble to dust And generations of folks yet to come Will be grateful for your trust. Thanks to letter writer Peter Schueler, Sr., for caring enough about abandoned and neglected cemeteries to include this in his letter. It's powerful. Paul Morehouse>> !^NavFont02F04E10007NGHHKE222EC

    3. To all of you who want to remember veterans. Most American Legions are doing poppies this weekend. Your donation supports the disabled Veterans in Sandusky, Ohio. Those veterans make those poppies, about 700,000 per year to support themselves. They have to pay to live in that Veteran's Home so get out there and help your disabled Vet's today. 3. The following message is from a great lady. Also go over and check out my Memorial Day site at http://www.infinet.com/~dzimmerm/Md/h1index.html and it will take some time to load but it is worth it. -------------------------- With the upcoming Memorial Day weekend approaching quickly, talk to your elders and get their info, manage somehow to spread alittle love and appreciation for all Veterans fallen and retired. Don't just sit back and enjoy the old BBQ,talk to your family and loved ones, enjoy the memories of the past. That's the way a real geneologist should work, take account of the events by memorializing them with a videotape of the days events, take pictures and sound recordings.(You won't regret it). Let them tell you about their days in WWI,WWII,Korean,Vietnam, and Desert Storm. Have them bring out those old pictures of them in uniform;sitting around the tent or on the deck with their buddies, who may have passed away. War is a terrible thing, but we must overcome our worst enemy-Fear. The best way that I know how is to talk about it. Go out to the cemetery and clean up the sites and ponder a few moments to reflect upon the wonderful achievements these citizens have gone through for these United States. Remember those parades we used to watch as children, how about those memorial services our parents used to make us go to when we had know idea what was being said. Now as we have matured into adulthood-Well at least some of us. Let's bring our children and grandchildren to those parades, let us remember them and have our children and grandchildren feel the energy and appreciation that our parents have instilled in us,so that they too will remember our energy and appreciation for those who help keep these United States a loving and great nation. 3. Maggie, I just saw the message you received from Norma Miller about grave hopping. I would like to take her up on that one. My information is that my g-grandparents are buried in St Ann's Cemetery in Fremont, O. Mary A. Hennessy died on Dec. 23, 1883 in Sandusky County. She was 75 years old. The inscription on her gravestone reads; " Mary, wife of D. Hennessy, Died Dec. 23, 1883, aged 75 years, 6 mos., 3 days. (How we got that info is a mystery). Her husband, Dennis Hennessy, probably is buried in St. Ann's too. His death was recorded in St Ann's Church in Sandusky Co. It reads: 1890 Dec. 6 Sepelvi Dionysium Hennessy, Aetat. 84 annas + 4 a. T.F. Moran, A. E. N. I'd love to get a picture of both graves or one picture of both if they are together. No cost was mentioned but I would like to know how I can be of help. Thanks, Al O'Brien PS My grandfather and his family (including my mother) were long time residents of Oak Harbor. Do you know if there are any plans for an Ottawa Co. Website ?
