    3. - ---------------------------------------------------------------- FORWARDED MESSAGE - Orig: 26-Jul-99 9:49 Subject: Railroad survey maps available - ---------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Sandy Read" <[email protected]> And did you know that with railroads came maps and surveys? The very first railroad survey in the United States was taken in October, 1809 in Pennsylvania In 1830, the surveying, mapping and construction of what would be the Baltimore and Ohio (also known as the B & O) was begun. It would first be only fourteen miles long. Over the years more and more land would be surveyed, mapped and constructed. Eventually the Transcontinental Railroad would exist when the Pacific Railroad met the Central Pacific Railroad at Promontory, Utah on 10 May 1869. Not surprising there are maps galore and they are fascinating to look at. But where can you find them? Well the Library of Congress has done you a big service. They have digitized hundreds of their maps and made them available for researchers online. The Railroad Maps Collection covers the years 1828 to 1900 and is a part of the American Memory online section of the Library of Congress. You can search and view these digitized maps by visiting their web site at: http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/gmdhtml/rrhtml/rrhome.html !^NavFont02F04690007NGHHK6BB470

From there they moved to Erie Co. and finally homesteaded a farm in Green Springs, Sandusky County, Ballville Twp. sometime around 1854. They had three more children in Ohio and lived on their farm into the 1880's. On the 1850 listing for this family there is a John Hansay (50) & Cornelius Renahan (2), both shown as born in Ireland John could be Dennis' father? 3. Hi The Metzger Cemetery has been read and we are working on it now to have it printed. This will be combined with Jackson and Washington Cemeteries. The Kin Hunters are working on printing all the cemeteries in Sandusky Co. The President Hayes Library has some old readings but ours brings it up to date. The Binkley Cemetery is in Sandusky Twp. and has not been recently read. It was read in 1969 and Hayes has those records also., I suggest when you get to Fremont call the Presidential Center as they are in the process of intsalling new air conditioning so during this time the library will be closed. I don't know the dates but the telephone # is 4l9-332-208l. Their e-mail address is [email protected],com. Lloyd [email protected] DATE: 07/20/99 Dear Sirs: My grandmother, Jane Hester PENWRIGHT was born in Clyde, Sandusky County, Ohio on 2 December 1859. She married my grandfather, William WILL on 3 June 1878. Her death record (recorded in Miami County, Peru, Indiana) shows William Penwright (born 28 February 1830, Bedfordshire County, England) as her father and Catharine Flowers as her mother. William Penwright married Catharine Flowers on 28 June 1855 in Sandusky County, Ohio according to good record sources. I believe the obituary for Jane Hester Will indicates she had three sisters. My mother was Nellie Mae (Will) Lloyd. At the time of Grandma Will's death, they were living on a farm near Converse, Indiana (just west of Marion). Thus far, all attempts to ascertain names of Catharine Flowers' parents or that family origin has met with frustration. The same can be said regarding steps to trace William Penwright. The original record to which I had access showed the spelling of William Penwright's last name as "Penright". If you can cite some productive sources for me to work in, I'd appreciate a return e-mail. Thank You, Sincerely, Harold D. 3. I'm digressing, but I couldn't resist for when I saw Waikiki it reminded me of a Liberty there in the 40's. We hadn't been paid and were so broke we didn't even have any cigarettes. We (4 or 5 teenage Marines) decided to go to the Royal Hawaiin Hotel and get some free pineapple juice. As we walked up the long winding sidewalk to the entrance, a woman lite up a cigarette at the door and started walking toward us. Just before we passed, she threw the lit cigarette off to the side. The scramble for the cigarette was absolutely hilarious. My genealogical question. Who was that woman? I want to thank her for I got the ciggie.
