I am new to this list and am researching Martha A Kerns who married John W. Speakman. Martha Kerns: Aug.1, 1860/March 26, 1950. John W. Speakman: April 21, 1859/May 2, 1931. I am trying to research a family legend that Martha Kerns was an adopted/or raised by Samuel Kerns and Elizabeth Chester. Martha was thought to be Shawnee. Any information regarding Martha and John Speakman would be great. Any ideas of how to further research this legend would be greatly appreciated. They were both from Ross County, married there and raised there family in this area. I am not sure exactly where Martha was born or raised.
