According to the 1800 Census your Major lived in Dorchester MD, not Ross Co. In 1800 Ohio was part of the Northwest Territory which included territories and states (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin) NW of the Ohio River. Ohio was the first state formed from the Territory in 1803. A Federal Government Census for the state of Ohio was not created until 1810. Most of the 1810 Census was destroyed during the War of 1812. Much of the 1800 NW Territory Census was also destroyed, but Kingston would not be listed on this census as Kingston even if it did exist. The only other sources in which you can examine to obtain information on your ancestor in 1810 is possibly Tax, land and/or Church Records. The LDS library is your best place to look for early county records. They have the following microfilm. a.. Estrays records, 1805-1823, 1862-1918, by Ross County (Ohio). Clerk of Courts b.. Deed and lease records, 1798-1925; general index, 1797-1937 and index to deeds and leases of the city of Chillicothe, by Ross County Recorder c.. A listing of entry men on lands east of the Scioto River in Ross Co., Ohio, by L. Richard Kocher d.. Tax duplicates, 1808-1838, 1865, microfilm of original records in Ross Co. Courthouse Also in addition to Pickaway Co., do not exclude Fairfield Co. Franklin Co Greene Co. Highland Co. or Fayette Co. who were all formed from portions of Ross county 1810 or earlier. Check these county's land and tax records also. Ohio 1810 U.S. census. My ancestor Major Magee LINGRELL lived in Kingston and was listed in the 1800 census. Can't find him again until the 1830 census for Marion co. Oh. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can look further into finding him in Kingston or just across the county line into Pickaway co. where his daughter lived for that year of 1810, or anything else around that time period? Are there tax lists or other county lists I could look into? Thanks so much for your help.
