Sincerely, Brenda Oiler Heaton OBITUARY FROM THE JOURNAL-HERALD DATED FRIDAY NOVEMBER 4, 1983 EARL BAIRD Word was received here that Earl Waldo Baird, 59, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on November 3rd following several months of illness. Funeral services will be held in Columbus and burial there this Saturday. He is survived by his wife, (Margie Roach Baird of the home, 3569 Kenlawn Street; a daughter, Janet Marie; and a son, David. Mrs. Baird is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lester Raymond Roach, Sr. ---------------------- JESSE HENSON Jesse A. Henson, age 76, of Buckeye Church Road, Jackson died 4:05 p.m. Thursday at his home. Born in Elliott County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late John and Nancy Ison Henson. He was a retired farmer and a member of Paul's Chapel Church. Survivors include his wife, Emily Boggs; three sons, Lonnie of Jackson and Tom and John of Lyndon; three daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Pauline) Short of Jackson, Mrs. Dave (Nancy) Camp of Talmadge, Mrs. Jim (Jean) Vamey of Columbus; seven sisters, Essie Waddell and Virgie Henson of Columbus, Mary Rice of Ashland, Kentucky, Myrtle Groah of Wheelersburg, Maggie Green of Culver, Kentucky, Hazel Rings of Fleetwood, North Carolina and Violet Ratliff of Sciotoville; one brother, Elmer of Jackson; 11 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Friends may call at the Hammerstein-Cox Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Saturday. Services will be held there 2 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Willis Tomblin officiating. -------------------------- SARAH McGOWAN Sarah McGowan, age 94, of Portland Street, Oak Hill died this morning (Friday) at Holzer Medical Center. Born in Jackson County, she was a lifetime resident of the area. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey, and two daughters. Survivors include three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are ending at Mayhew Funeral Home. ------------------------- EFFIE RAY Effie Ray, age 86, died Thursday morning at Heartland of Jackson. She had been in failing health. Born in Vinton, she was a former resident of Dayton and had resided in Wellston for the past four years. She was a homemaker. Daughter of the late Harvey and Emma Nixon Atwood; she was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Ray; a daughter, sister and two brothers. Survivors include a brother, Ernest Atwood of Byer; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Jenkins Funeral Home from 7 until 9 p.m. Saturday; Rev. Raymond Patterson will officiate the last rites. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at the Willow View Cemetery, Dayton. ----------------------------- CATHERINE SHAFFER Catherine Shaffer, age 77, of Portsmouth Street, Jackson died 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oak Hill Hospital following several years of failing health. Born in Jackson, she was a retired school teacher with over 40 years of service and a graduate of Otterbein College. Survivors include a niece, Louise Young of Atlanta, Georgia. Friends may call at the Eisnaugle Funeral Home this evening (Friday). Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday with Rev. James Gleaves officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery.
