At present, I do not know the parents of Richard and Robert Newland. I am searching for them though. I suspect Richard and Robert Newland are somehow related to Martha Ann Newland of Ross County, Ohio. Martha Ann Newland married Emery Hall Kepler in 1875 in Ross County, Ohio. I believe that Mary Kepple (and Keppler) in the Ross County marriage records is the same person as Mary J. Kepler, who was the sister to my Emery Hall Kepler. The marriage index book for Ross County noted that her name was spelled Mary Kepple on the marriage license and spelled Mary Keppler on the marriage application. Mary J. Kepler (Keppler, Kepple) mother was named Hannah Livingood Kepler. Hannah Livingood Kepler moved to Cedar Creek Township, Manton, Michigan prior to 1879. Hannah Kepler died in Cedar Creek Township, Manton, Michigan in 1879. A letter dated in 1880 in her widow's military pension file (her husband, Jacob Kepler died in the civil war) recorded her death in 1879 and stated that one of her daughters still resides in Manton, Michigan. I have the information from the 1880 census showing Mary J. Newland residing with Richard Newland and four children: Sarah Newland age 11 yrs born Ohio; James Newland age 9 yrs born Ohio; Florence Newland age 8 yrs born Ohio and Jacob Newland age 6 years born Ohio. I would sincerely appreciate any information on the family of either Robert or Richard Newland so I can try and see if I can connect them to Martha Ann Newland. Would also appreciate it if you could check your book "Manton Area History Book" to see if there are any references to the Kepler (Keppler) family. One of Mary Kepler Newland's brother's also resided in Manton, Michigan in 1880 along with Mary Kepler Newland and Hannah Kepler. This brother was named Jobe Dibbler Kepler and he was married to Ellen McCoy Kepler. I found a reference showing that Mary Kepler Newland was buried in Grandview Cemetery in Cedar Creek Township, Manton, Michigan. She died 19 October 1919 according to that source. Looking forward to your response. My email is: [email protected]
