A cousin that looked at the roster said that W's were out of alphabetical did you se anything like that? His application for pension is very very hard to read. one part I could read was that he was in Ross Co. 27th National Guard and was taken into the 149 th OVI Thank you for you time Lynn Frank Conner I have checked the roster of each company of the 149th and do not find your Samuel listed. I also did not find him on the Roll of Honor for the 149th. Lynn How would someone find out if a Civil War Vet. was discharged in Ross County, Ohio Name was Samuel L. Wilges/Wilgus from the 149th OVI Thanks Frank Conner ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to OHROSS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
Frank, Did your cousin look at microfilm? I have the 1889 set of The Official Roster of the Soldiers of the State of Ohio in the War of the Rebellion 1851-1865 . The lists of soldier's names from each company are in alphabetical order with the exception of the officers. Those are listed first according to rank. I looked again at each company, and the officers as well, and did not see any name close to your Samuel's. I also checked my CD ROM which lists all soldiers from every state, but the only Samuel Wilgus I found was in the 10th PA. He enlisted early (1861). I wonder if your Samuel reenlisted, would he still have had to have been mustered out with the 149th first? Perhaps someone else might know the answer to this. I did read that the 149th was composed of the 27th Ohio National Guard from Ross County and the 55th Battalion from Clinton County. The Regiment was organized at Camp Denison from the 8th-11th of May, 1864, to serve 100 days. The Regiment was mustered out 30 Aug., 1864. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
