OH 1847 to Gottlieb Gross and Elizabeth Kaufman. There were two younger sisters Sofina & Elizabeth Gottlieb died before 1858. Elizabeth married Friederich Wallrodt 6 Jan. 1858. On the 19 Mar 1861 Friederich Wallrodt took guardianship of Charles and his 2 Sisters at Waverly, Pike Co.OH.. Charles served in the Civil War and some sources say he was killed there. The 1870 census found him with his mother and stepfather age 22 disproving the above. His mother filed a petition for a mothers pension in Feb 1879. Did he die from an injury or disease contracted in the service. No injury is mentioned in his service record. No Obit or death record has been found. I believe he was buried in Wards Farm Cem. in an unmarked grave. See excerpt below: ++++++++++ "EDWARD(S) FARM CEMETERY - .This cemetery, in the Virginia Military District (survey No. 36702), is listed in the Veterans Registration book at the courthouse, but no veterans are listed as buried there. It lies in the woods on a farm midway between Alma Omego and Woods Hollow Roads and no stones exist. In 1971, Mrs. Hattie Cook, who lived on the adjoining farm over 50 years, said there were no stones when they moved there. According to Mrs. Cook and Cecil Coler (brother of Ansel Coler, deceased) when Ansel was alive, he placed a flag on the grave of a man named WALDOLDT who fought in the civil War. Mr. Coler thought his name was Grosie or Crozie and that he died about 1880. " . ++++++++++ The above excerpt from the Franklin Twp. Cemetery book at Chillicothe, Ross Co. OH. Evidence indicates Charles may have used the Wallrodt name at times. This was indicated on the Mothers pension application as an allies. Wallrodt is misspelled most of the time in the records. I have seen it spelled Waldolt more than once. Charles' sister Sofina Gross (white) m. James R. Bunch (colored) 2 Jan 1876 Ross Co. OH. The other sister Elizabeth Gross m.Edward Medley 3 Jan. 1871 also in Ross Co. I have never been able to find the descendents of these 2 girls. My grandmother said both Gross girls married colored but Elizabeth's marriage record does not prove this. Can anyone help with this puzzle. I have searched for years , Thanks John <[email protected]> --=======1F1C6298======= Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; x-avg=cert; x-avg-checked=avg-ok-7BDE5560 Content-Disposition: inline --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
