I am tracing a 1797 group migration from Hardy CO VA (now the area of Grant CO WV) to southern Illinois and have noticed a number of Hardy CO people going to Ross CO OH. Some, of course, went there directly. But others in my group went to Illinois first then, finding it dangerous due to an epidemic, retreated east to Ross CO OH. Don't know why they chose Ross CO in particular; maybe there's a story for us to uncover.
