John, One World Tree at Ancestry.com shows that a Luther James married a Sarah Betts 4 Jan., 1850 in Pickaway County, Ohio. However, Family Search at www.familysearch.com shows that a Luther James married a Sarah Betts 9 Jan. 1840 in Pickaway County, Ohio. Also, the 1850 census shows a Luther James and wife Sarah and 4 children living in Ross County with the oldest child being 9 years old, so, therefore it appears that the Family Search record is probably the closest of being correct. The 1850 census shows: James, Luther 39 yrs old born in Virginia Sarah 36 .. .. .. .. Del. George W 9 .. .. .. Ohio John H 8 .. .. .. .. Mary M 6 .. .. .. .. Andrew 5 .. .. .. .. I don't know if you are familiar with Ross County or not but Pickaway County joins Ross County's north side. I hope this helps. I think they got married in Ross Co. in 1840 or 1839. Luther is listed in the 1840 census. Any information on this family would be appreciated. Thank to very much for your time.
Thanks Herman, I agree it has to be 1840, the 1860, 1870 and 1880 census all agree. Now to find parents!
