My grandfather, Ben ROUT, ran a business out of a log cabin on Eastern Ave, called the Highway INN, in Chillicothe, OH from about 1937-1943. Would love to see a pic of the building (torn down many years ago) and any info. about its history. From what I've been told it had a large dinner bell hanging in front of the restaurant. I believe the property was owned by people named HAAS. Any info. would be greatly appreciated. Thank You Cathy

>From now until November 30 ancestry.com is giving a free time of looking at immigration records. A cousin wrote me to tell me that he had found our ancestor's ship manifest including the nine family members listed. I went straight to the site and found what he had found, so exciting. Then I tried other names, there is so much on the site including images of ships, the ships census, and more. The actual ship census page was not available for my ancestor, but many others were. Take a look for your ancestors while it is free! Chyrl Lawrence-Bulger Ross County OHGenWeb CC

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/VZB.2ACI/687.1.1.1 Message Board Post: It is listed as Spencer but maybe since that is the only listing for a Cora, it could be a misspelling. Is that date about right? It might be worth looking into since there were no listings for Spence
Please don't assume that Spence and Spencer aren't the same name. Old hand-written vital records can be notoriously inaccurate. County records from years ago are sometimes written in a very ornate style with excessive curlicues (which sometimes result in extra letters). Certainly, people were hard of hearing, but hearing aids did not exist. So clerks wrote what they thought they heard. Possibly the clerk knew some Spencers but no Spences, so the name was "corrected." You are dealing in a time period in which many people were not very educated. You may need to pursue your leads until you can eliminate them. Good luck. Marcia (pursuing Cotrels, Cottrells, Coterells, Cottrills, Cotrills, etc. in Pike Co.)

All I found in Ross marriages from 1798 through 1900 is listed in Ross County Marriage Record Vol. 6 1898-1901 page 210 is Cora M Spencer (23) from Union Twp married George L Vester (30) from Twin Twp.
