Hello, I saw your posting and would like to know more about your Lucas family. I am aware of Several Lucas families who arrived in Ross / Highland Counties during your time frame. One was from Maryland by way of Greene Co, PA. A second family was from Massachusetts through Washington Co, PA. And, I believe the third (Governor Lucas) was from Virginia. I don't find a Abraham Lucas in the bunch! Mine was the one from Washington Co, PA. Ezra Lucas came to Buckskin Twp, Ross Co, in 1811. His brother, Daniel, arrived a few years later. Other family members came to the area even later. I believe about six brothers from the Greene Co, PA family came a few years earlier than my group. And, without digging, I can't tell you when the Governor arrived. Where did your family settle? Were there other males whose given names I might recognize? --Jack ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Both Frisby and Mahlon married in Frederick Co., VA shortly before coming to Ross County. I believe they were brothers, but cannot prove it. Frisby and Mahlon each had children named Frisby, Mahlon, and Samuel. I also believe they were related in some way to Carvil Morris, born about 1808 in Maryland, but again don't know how they were related. Would love to hear from anyone who is researching the origins of these families and how they are related. Thanks! I'm looking for any proof of marriage AND divorce between Henry HICKLE, Jr. and Sarah A. MAY. They are my paternal 4th great-grandparents. Here is what info I currently have on them. Henry HICKLE, Jr. (b: 26 Feb 1826 in Colerain Twshp, Ross Co, OH; d: 27 Oct 1919; buried in Hallsville, Ross Co, OH) married (7 Jun 1854 in Ross County, OH) Sarah A. MAY (middle initial may stand for Althea [b: 1832 in OH; d: 26 Nov 1915 in OH]) Children: Althea Jane HICKLE (b: 17 Mar 1858 in OH; d: 14 Feb 1945 in El Paso, TX) The Hickle genealogy that I've read states that Henry's first wife, Sarah, died when their daughter was very young and he remarried...to Sarah Reedy. They had more children after that. What I've been told in my family is that Sarah did not die, but rather was the first woman in the state of OH to petition for divorce. I don't know if that's true, but it seems like that would have been enough of a scandal to lead people to believe that she'd died. I know for a fact that Sarah MAY lived to be an elderly woman (I have pictures). Sarah did remarry...to a WHIPP (my grandmother always referred to her as Grandma Whipp). I'm hoping for whatever info I can get regarding my 4th G-grandparents...especially official government records regarding them. Thank you, Jamie Mustain Portland, OR

I'm researching four of my ancestor families who were early settlers to Ross County. They are the Abraham Lucas family, the Charles Search family, the Gates and the Shaffer families. They came from Virginia at the turn of the 18th century. Anybody else working on these families? Any hints on how to track them? ----- Original Message ----- From: "karen conley" <KARENCONLEY@webtv.net> To: <ohross@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, July 02, 2007 12:23 PM Subject: Re: [OHROSS] Wilson/Hamilton > Shirley, I am also researching early settlers to Ross County from > Virginia. I have the same names, dates, etc. I suspect that because both Sarah's were born around 1793, they were the same woman. The second Sara you refer to may actually have been a "daughter-in-law" rather than just a "daughter." There's a chance that after Sarah married William and he died, she remarried to Solomon Seymour. It is based on an indenture filed in the Jackson County Ohio Recorders Office dated 27AUG1839 which names "the children of Sarah Salts Seymour; Elizabeth Dugan, Susan Thompson, Isaac Salts, William Salts, Alfred Salts, and Thomas Salts. They are all the children of Solomon Seymore's wife and are to take possession of this before mentioned tract at the death of Solomon Seymore and Sarah his wife." There was 81.84 acres purchased at Chillicothe, Ohio by Solomon Seymore on 04JUL1839. You know the children listed as those of Sarah Salts Seymour are also the children of William Salts. Shirley, I am also researching early settlers to Ross County from Virginia. The main surname that I am researching is Crabb. I believe that they came foriginally from Westmoreland County, Virginia. I am wondering if you may have came accross the name of Crabb in the Presbyterian Church records? Thanks! Karen
