    1. Sharing S.S.N. app. forms
    2. Thomas Anderson
    3. Sharing this information with permission of the sender. It's a wonderful idea. Karen --------------- Fellow listers, Here's an appeal to all of you to pull out the copies of the Social Security Number application forms you already have filed away in your "stuff" and post them at Rootsweb. I just did it for the ones I have and it's really easy. 1. Go to: http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi 2. Enter the name of the person who is on the form you have into the search engine. 4. When the right entry comes up, go over to the far right and click on "Add Post-Em" link. 5. The "Fill in the blank" form will come up and you can type in the information just like it's printed on the form you have in your hands! 6. Include all the information in the order that it is entered on the form, so that others have the advantage of all that information. NOTE: You don't have to type in the SS Number for the person as the Rootsweb program includes it. Since the cost of these forms have increased substantially as of July 1, it would be good if EVERYONE put out the information they already have. Then whoever else is searching for that same person won't be required to pay the new price for the same form you have in your files. And vice-versa! If we all "plant seed," we'll all get the crop!

    1. Fee increase for S.S. applications.
    2. Thomas Anderson
    3. This information was just sent to me, and it is well worth passing along. Currently, if you wish to obtain a copy of your ancestor's Social Security Number application and you can provide the SS number, the fee is only $7. As of July 1, it will jump to $27. Rates higher without the S.S. All information is available at the site below. Karen -----Original Message----- I just thought I would spread the word that the fees for getting a copy of a Social Security Application are going up drastically on 1 July 2001. If you apply before then you will be charged the old amount which is now $7 if you know the number, and $16.50 if you do not. The new fees are posted at: http://www.ssa.gov/foia/foia_guide.htm It appears that the increases are more than substantial, they are gigantic. This means that the time for procrastination is over. The address you need to send them to is: Social Security Administration Office of Central Records Operation Attention: Freedom of Information Workgroup PO Box 17772 300 N. 1. Adoption pertaining to Genealogy
    2. Dear Listmembers: I'm writing today regarding Adoption Searches, as to how one may apply it to Genealogy Research. Most adoptees and/or birthparents and other extended family eventually search for their missing family members. As a reunited adoptee myself, I now help others to search and reunite. I am often hired by birthmothers and siblings of adoptees to locate their missing/lost family member for them. Adoptees are very concerned with past generations of family history. Even tracing death certificates is quite helpful to an adoptee when filling out a medical history form in their doctors office (those who haven't traced their family of origin have nothing to write on their health forms). The state of Ohio has a Birth Index and Supplemental List. My information covers 1959 through 1989 and was purchased through Vital statistics in Columbus, Ohio. Those who require assistance may contact me directly. Birth Indexes list all babies born on a given DOB in any area of Ohio, used by adoptees to learn their name at birth, enabling them to locate their family of origin. Supplemental Lists are the name changes or amended names of the adopted, used by birthmothers and other family members to locate an adoptee by their current adopted name. I'd like to invite anyone with an interest in adoption to join my Ohio Triad mailing list. Reading the archived digests will provide links and addresses to information concerning Ohio and the many public records available. Information, resources, databases are available at very reasonable cost. Sincerely, E. Kimble Reunited Adoptee Ohio Adoption Searcher [email protected] [email protected]

    1. William AKER & Eliza Ann REED
    2. Thomas Anderson
    3. Hi, I am new to the list. Searching for information or other descendants of William AKER b. abt 1831 OH He is listed in the 1850 census of Ross Co. OH, age 19, working as a laborer for Wm. Kellenbarger family. Also listed is a "Kesiah" REED, age 14 working as a domestic. This must be a misspelling of Eliza. Records show William married Eliza Ann Reed in Ross Co. on Jan. 2, 1852. Their daughter (my great grandmother) Laura was born Oct., 1856 in Fairfield Co. I have found no other records of the family until 1875 when Laura married Daniel Keller in Huntington Co. IN She had sons Charlie and Delmon and Ernest. Daniel died of typhoid and Laura later married John I. Williams of Huntington. Would love to hear from anyone with information on this family. Happy to share what I have. Karen
