    1. [OHROSS] RICEs of Ross or Highland Co. c. 1840
    2. Greetings! My great-great-grandparents were Thomas Jefferson CHAFFIN and Sarah RICE of Paint Township, Ross Co. They married in about 1840. Sarah was born in Ireland, 28 November, 1822. I'm looking for information about her family; they *may* have been from neighbouring Highland Co. (I'm inquiring there, too). Thomas and Sarah later removed to Story Co., Iowa along with John M. and Biddy (RICE) Griffith, who had married in Highland Co. 14 April 1841, so I suspect that Biddy and Sarah may have been sisters. There must also have been a brother, as John and Biddy had a niece and nephew, Peter and Susan RICE, living with them near Thomas and Sarah in Iowa. Any info about these people would be much appreciated! Thanks!!

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/VZB.2ACI/212.1 Message Board Post: I wonder if there is any connection with my mysterious Mr. Brown. Susannah, eldest child of Thomas and Mary Summersett, was born in Frederick Co, VA, 07 Oct 1788. Her family moved to Berkeley and Ohio counties, VA, then finally about 1812 to Frankfort in Ross Co, OH. Susannah married about 1810, presuambly in Ohio Co, (W)VA, to a Mr. Brown. She died in Frankfort 16 Sep 1821, and there is a small (sadly broken when we saw it in 1991) stone, a wonderufl piece of folk art, in the Methodist Cemetery. She had a daughter Mary Ann Brown (1813-1829) but I don't know if there were any other children, and have been unable to learn the name of her husband. Ring any bells? Many of her nieces and nephews moved to IA.

    1. [OHROSS] Ross vs Lawrence counties
    2. Dear Listers, Would someone be going to the probate court in Chillicothe in the near future? Was it common place for someone to be buried in a county, other than the one they died in? How far is Chillicothe from Ironton? Would the body have been taken to a funeral home in Chillicothe and then transferred to a funeral home in Ironton? I have assumed for quite sometime that, because my Boyce family was buried in Ironton, that they must have died in Lawrence County. Now, because of receiving an obit for one of my Boyce family, I know that they lived in Chillicothe, OH. I am looking for Dennis Boyce who died on March 17, 1887 and his wife, first name is unknown, who died on November 30, 1881. I would deeply appreciate some help with this. I am on the west coast and so do not have ready access to info in Ohio. Happy New Year!! Anne

    3. I am searching for information about my g-grandmother, Katherine Boerst/Burst, born 21 May 1845. Father possibly Jacob; mother unknown. One or both parents deceased by 1850. I am speculating as to whether or not she is the daughter of the George Burst/Borst who lived in Ross County. That Katherine is a few years younger than my Catherine. Katherine married Frederick Theodor Arbogast in April, 1869 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Ripley, Ohio. Persons associated with this woman: Valentine Roemer and his wife, Christine Linn. She was a sponsor for their daughter, Katherine's baptism in the Lutheran Church at Ripley, Ohio. The family story is that Katherine was an indentured servant whose parents died before she was 5 years old. Thank you, Buffy & Trixie in Cincinnati
