Surnames: STAUFFER/STOWFER/BARNHART/CUTRIGHT/BARRATT/MEYER/ROHR/ANTONIDES Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/VZB.2ACI/232 Message Board Post: I'm seeking any information on the following John STAUFFER, or any of his family. Regardless of what this writing puts forth, I have also found information that John was born in Fayette Co., and Center Co. didn't exist at the time of his birth, Jan 13, 1789. I have also found that David STAUFFER has his name spelled STOWFER in 2 different Census records, and in his Marriage License to Mary BARNHART, so I'm unsure at this time which might be correct. Any information, or offers of help, even that which requires a payment, would be appreciated. I have some further information on John's children if anyone is interested. From; A standard history of Ross Co. OH. Vol II p545-548 Mrs. CUTRIGHT's (Lucretia STAUFFER) people were also early settlers in Ross County. Her Great - Grandfather John STAUFFER was born in Center County, Pennsylvania, of German parentage. As a young man he learned the trade of stonemason, which he followed in Pennsylvania, and about 1830 he came to Ohio, accompanied by his wife and six children. The entire journey was made overland with wagons and teams, and they camped by the roadside wherever night overtook them. Reaching Ohio they first settled in Fairfield County, but a year later moved to Ross County, where John STAUFFER bought a tract of land near Dry Run in Springfield Township. There he lived out his useful years, and reared six children, David, John, Eliza, Mary, Samuel, and Solomon. David STAUFFER, grandfather of Mrs. CUTRIGHT, was a son of his father's first marriage. He grew up in Pennsylvania, came to Ohio with his father, and at the time had $300 which he inherited from his mother's estate. This money was employed to purchase fifty acres in East Springfield, now owned by Henry and Walter CUTRIGHT. A log house stood on the land surrounded by a small clearing. That log cabin was the home to which he brought his bride. After two years there he sold the place for $500 and then purchased 160 acres in the same township. The purchase price was $1,000, and he went in debt for half of it. The improvements on this land were also primitive, consisting of a log house and several acres of cleared land. David STAUFFER proved his prosperity and comfort before his death, which occurred in his seventy-sixth year. David STAUFFER married Mary BARNHART, who was born in Pennsylvania, a daughter of Lawrence BARNHART, who came from that state and settled in Green Township of Ross County. Mrs. David STAUFFER, who died several years before her husband, reared two children, Benjamin and Rebecca, the latter becoming the wife of David BROWN.

The family then moved on to Greene Co IN. In his rev War pension appl, Cornelius identifies Isaiah Hale. his "stepson aged nearly twenty four years who out of pitty sake for his mother" . . and Elizabeth a "stepdaughter aged upwards of twenty." Isaiah Hale is my ancestor (as would be his mother Sarah). I am assuming Sarah was at one time a Hale and/or a Ramsour.. I do not know if she married a Ramsour after the Hale or if Hale died and she resumed her maiden name or what. Cornelius' brother Abel married a Polly Rumsower in Greene, IN. I have Isaiah's descendant line but know nothing of his parents except that bit on Sarah and that he was born in NC abt 1797. Seeking any information on mother Sarah Rumsower Hale, her children Isaiah and Elizabeth and the Polly Rumsower md Abel Westfall. Any help would be appreciated! Cindy HMB [email protected] There are Ramsours in OH as well as Greene Co IN. Also in MO & TX where Isaiah came but I know of no connections, if any, to Sarah. (Tons of Hales and Ramsours in NC where Isaiah was born, too!!)

I am descended from Samuel E Rinehart, son of Enos. I know that in the mid 1800s there were several Rinehart farms on the west side of Rt. 772 near Baptist Hill, between Baptist Hill and Knockemstiff. Is anyone researching or familiar with this group? I'm hoping to pinpoint the land where Samuel E lived and find a gravesite. I can't find him either in Baptist Hill nor at the churchyard south on 772. Have I missed another cemetery? Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated. paul
