    3. Hi, I am new to the list. I would like to know in the history of Ross county, if anyone has written about the group from Kentucky with Nathaniel Massie, to settle the town of Chillicothe? My ancestors, William and Dorcas Nicholson, and their family, went to Ross county in 1796 and I feel they were with this group. Also there was some Purcells in the group and they seemed to always live next to my William and Dorcas Nicholson. I do not know Dorcas maiden name and have wondered if it was Purcell. Would like to have any info about this group . Thank you. Lois Haile <[email protected]>

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Newland, Kepler, McCoy Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/VZB.2ACI/282.1 Message Board Post: Thanks for the response. At present, I do not know the parents of Richard and Robert Newland. I am searching for them though. I suspect Richard and Robert Newland are somehow related to Martha Ann Newland of Ross County, Ohio. Martha Ann Newland married Emery Hall Kepler in 1875 in Ross County, Ohio. I believe that Mary Kepple (and Keppler) in the Ross County marriage records is the same person as Mary J. Kepler, who was the sister to my Emery Hall Kepler. The marriage index book for Ross County noted that her name was spelled Mary Kepple on the marriage license and spelled Mary Keppler on the marriage application. Mary J. Kepler (Keppler, Kepple) mother was named Hannah Livingood Kepler. Hannah Livingood Kepler moved to Cedar Creek Township, Manton, Michigan prior to 1879. Hannah Kepler died in Cedar Creek Township, Manton, Michigan in 1879. A letter dated in 1880 in her widow's military pension file (her husband, Jacob Kepler died in the civil war) recorded her death in 1879 and stated that one of her daughters still resides in Manton, Michigan. I have the information from the 1880 census showing Mary J. Newland residing with Richard Newland and four children: Sarah Newland age 11 yrs born Ohio; James Newland age 9 yrs born Ohio; Florence Newland age 8 yrs born Ohio and Jacob Newland age 6 years born Ohio. I would sincerely appreciate any information on the family of either Robert or Richard Newland so I can try and see if I can connect them to Martha Ann Newland. Would also appreciate it if you could check your book "Manton Area History Book" to see if there are any references to the Kepler (Keppler) family. One of Mary Kepler Newland's brother's also resided in Manton, Michigan in 1880 along with Mary Kepler Newland and Hannah Kepler. This brother was named Jobe Dibbler Kepler and he was married to Ellen McCoy Kepler. I found a reference showing that Mary Kepler Newland was buried in Grandview Cemetery in Cedar Creek Township, Manton, Michigan. She died 19 October 1919 according to that source. Looking forward to your response. My email is: [email protected]

    1. [OHRoss] Kepler, Newland, and Crites families in Ross County, Ohio
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Kepler, Newland, Crites, Livingood Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/VZB.2ACI/281 Message Board Post: While in Ohio for the Kepler family reunion, I found a reference in the Ross County marriage index to the marriage of a Ella Crites to a John Newland on 14 Aug 1892, recorded in volume C4 page 457. Does anyone know if this Ella Crites may have been the same person as Ellie Crites (the daughter of Rebecca Kepler and Jacob Crites, Jr.) Rebecca Kepler was a daughter of Emery Hall Kepler. I was wondering if anyone might have any information on this Ella Crites? Or John Newland. I am trying to piece together information on the Kepler and Newland families intermarriages and found the marriage of Ella Crites interesting and maybe a clue. At present, I have that Mary J. Kepler (daughter of Jacob and Hannah Kepler) marrried Richard Newland in Ross County, Ohio in 1868. This couple had a child named Hall Newland and moved to Manton, Michigan prior to 1880. Richard Newland had a brother named Robert Newland who also moved to Manton, Michigan. Hannah Livingood Kepler, Mary Kepler Newland's mother, died in Manton, Michigan in 1879. I next have Emery Hall Kepler (son of Jacob and Hannah Kepler) married Martha Ann Newland in 1875 in Ross County, Ohio. And then I have Jacob C. Kepler (son of Jobe Dibbler Kepler) married Dora Marie Newland in 1919 in Ross County, Ohio. Considering the above information, I was wondering if anyone has figured out just how the Newland family ties into the Kepler family. I have a copy of an 1875 atlas of Ross County, Ohio that shows a Newland family owns land at Potts Hill, near Bainbridge, Ohio. Would appreciate any thoughts or ideas on the above.
