He was the son of James Hughes and Jane McFadden. He married Rachel Hill 19 Oct 1836 in Richland Co., OH. He served in the Civil War Co. B, 120th OVI, he only served around 7 months until he became very ill. He died in Richland County on 24 Feb 1863 and was buried in the Newville Cemetery. He had a son, James Eagleson Hughes, who also served in the Civil War, he served in Co. A, 64th OVI, he served a little over a year when he also became ill with consumption returning home to die. He died, 20 Dec 1863, in Richland County and was also buried in the Newville Cemetery. John Hines Hughes also had a brother, Alexander Hughes, who was serving as an US Army surgeon, he died in Arkansas, birth and death date unknown at this time. Is this your John Hughes? I don't know your Thomas Hughes, there is a Thomas who was a brother to John Hines Hughes' father. Is your John and Thomas brothers? Let me know if this helps you out, who knows maybe our John Hughes are cousins or something. Happy Hunting, Shelley Hill Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. My John Hughes was born in Wales in about 1794. I do not know his parents' names. He may have had a brother named Thomas. There was a Thomas in Beaver Twp. who was a Presbyterian Minister in the early 1800's. Hughes seems to be a rather common name and it is difficult to sort them all out, especially with names like John, James ,Thomas, etc.It is odd that my John, your John and James all died in 1863 and are buried in Richland Co. There may be a distant connection. Thanks for the info. I will keep it.
