    1. [OHRICHLA] William Harvey "Bill" Cleland
    2. LEXINGTON -- William Harvey "Bill" Cleland, 90, formerly of Fox Road, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at Woodlawn Health Care and Rehabilitation after a long illness. He was born July 17, 1917, in Lexington to Hoyt and Nettie Brown Cleland, and was graduated from Lexington High School in 1934. On Aug. 30, 1941, he married Grace E. Healea Cleland, with whom he would spend 65 years. Grace preceded him in death on Monday, Feb. 12, 2007. During WW II, Bill served in New York City in the New York Port of Embarkation with the U.S. Army's Postal Detachment, and held qualification of the US Rifle 1917 Marksman 145. When the former Page Dairy offered retail home delivery service, Bill was the dependable and friendly driver who ensured fresh dairy products were delivered door-to-door. He later delivered to retail outlets and grocers when Babcock's assumed the operation of the Dairy. He worked for the dairy a combined 31 years. Mondays were his bowling league nights at the former Colonial Lanes, downtown Mansfield. Bill closely followed the Cleveland Indians and was a fixture at most Lexington High School sporting events. He meticulously served the Lexington Local School District nearly ten years as a custodian. With that same fastidious care, Bill maintained his home, and his lawn was the envy of his Fox Road neighbors. Bill was a member of Lexington Presbyterian Church, and a former member of L exington Kiwanis Club. An avid hunter, Bill joined a group of Mansfielders on annual expeditions to Lake Magnetawan in Canada. A classic gentleman, there "just wasn't anybody he didn't like," Bill will be remembered for his genuine kindness and gentle nature. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, William Allen and Sue Cleland of Lexington; grandchildren, Amber Cleland of Lexington and Drew and Kim Cleland of Fairfield; a great-granddaughter, Alyssa Faith Cleland; a sister, Emma Whetstone of Evansville, Ind.; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Morris Cleland, and a sister, Anna Hicks. The family will receive friends Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, from Noon to 2 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where the funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. The Rev. Chris Thomas will officiate. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery, where American Legion Post #535 will hold graveside military honors. Memorial contributions to Diamond Hills Baptist Church may be made at the funeral home.
