Is there anyone on the list searching for Clines during the above time period. I believe that I have at least four brothers, Robt, Petter, Jacob and Jonathan b. in Richland Co. Their mother was probably Elizabeth Cline. So far the only date I have for her is difficult to read. I would guess that she was b. between 1790 and 1798. At least one of the brothers left Richland Co., sometime before 1850 and moved to Indiana and then they are found in Illinois and then Iowa. I am trying to find which one of the many Cline's in Richland Co. at that period is their parents. I believe the father died and the mother was living with one of the sons in 1850. Hello Sharie....I too am following the Cline surname, as it is one of many that continue to show up living around my Montgomery,Nottingham,Ferrell/Farrell lines. I do not have a direct connection as yet, but they all migrated from Virginia and/ or Pennsylvania abt 1800 to Jefferson Co Ohio, then 1815 to Richland Co Ohio. Some moved to Michigan for a few years, and several to Fulton Co Indiana. Then by 1840 several are living in Lake Co Illinois, moving by 1856 to Floyd Co. Iowa. Does this migration pattern fit your Clines? Do any of the surnames I mentioned show up in your research? Other names that are connected are Burgett,Callen/Callon, Crabs,Houston/Huston, Mercer,Ramey/Ramsey being the primary ones. Looking forward to hearing from you...Happy searching.....Sherry in Texas kinhistorian <kinhistorian@camtel.net> wrote: Is there anyone on the list searching for Clines during the above time period. Yes I am searching the Cline family - especially those that married into the Huston family and located in and near Shiloh, Rome and Ashland. My gg grandfather is Jessie HUSTON born Pennsylvania about 1806 died Ohio 1879 - according to an Ohio history book he was born in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Quote: "Jesse Huston was of good Scottish stock and was a native of the Keystone state, emigrating from Cumberland county to Ohio, when a young man of twenty years old. He located first in Weller township, Richland county and later removing to Jackson township where he was a successful agriculturist for many years. His death occurred in the year 1879 at which time he had attained the venerable age of 75. He was married to Margaret Thrush and they are the parents of 2 sons James, Ira, and 4 daughters Mary, Nancy, Maggie and Elizabeth. " Jesse may have moved to Columbiana county before preceding on to Richland county where he developed his farm and became a highly respected and well known farmer. I have considerable history of his descendants in Richland County, Ohio - - but I am unable to learn about his early life in Cumberland county and who his parents and siblings are. There is some discrepancies in the history books. Another book the History of Richland County, Ohio says "Jesse Huston cut down the first tree for the village of Rome, Ohio as the village was being laid out as a town. (The village was first called Rives, later changed to Rome) In 1832 he married Margarite Powell and they settled near Rome and developed their farm. Jessie remained in Richland county the rest of his life." I will be most grateful to hear if you are researching the same family line and I hope you can shed some light on Jessie and his parents.
