Born March 16, 1920, at Thealka, he was the son of the late Russell and Virginia McKenzie RaMey. He was an ordained minister of the First Church of God at Glo. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and a member and former chaplain of American Legion Post No. 295 at Garrett. He retired from Martin County Coal Corporation, and was a certified electrical engineer. He attended the North Woodbury Alliance Church. Survivors include his wife, Opal Boyd Ramey; three sons, Jim Ramey of Lexington, Dan L. Ramey of Frankfort and John F. Ramey Jr. of Mansfield, Ohio; one daughter, Carolyn S. Turner of Mansfield, Ohio; four brothers, Russell Ramey Jr. of Baltimore, Maryland, James Ramey of Paintsville, Melvin Ramey of Lexington, and David Ramey of Paintsville; two sisters, Mary Slone of Paintsville and Hazel Hartge of Shelby, Ohio; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 24, at the 11 a.m., at the Snyder Funeral Home, with Rev. Brian E. Burbin officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Memorial Park, where the Richland County Joint Veterans Council will hold graveside military honors.
