I'm researching William Ferguson of Monroe County, Richaldn Township. He owned a part of Section 34. I've been told that the original purchaser was Joseph Ferguson of Fairfield County in 1815. (I've asked for the name of the book) I had a friend who spent the day at the courthouse working with someone who works there. They could find nothing that showed when William bought it or even the purchase in 1815 when Joseph bought it. I've learned that Monroe Township was formed in 1817 which from what I gather means that the land that Joseph purchased in 1815 was not part of Monroe Township? Was probably part of Worthington.? However, how could he have purchased Section 34 (today's section 34) if there was another Section 34 in Worthington? How do I research that land? They search by name but couldn't find anything. This book that Joseph's name was found in I hope will give some hint. It had to be transcribed from something. I also know that Louis Bromfield knew that the Ferguson's were the first owners of that port of Section 34. I verified this with his family also because he was a writer and not all his stories were totally true. This land is now part of Malabar Farms. If you ever been there, there is a trail called "Up Ferguson Way" which is also the name of a book he wrote. This trail takes you to the land. This land stayed in the Ferguson family from 1815 until sometime around 1918. Can someone tell me how/where to look for this? Did they miss something at the courthouse? They even had problems with finding all of the changes in Ferguson ownership over the years.
