Listers, Can anyone give me any further information on this record of Bethsheba R Ackerman? aka Rose B Howard Adams Ackerman? The divorce record below appeared in the Richland Co GenWeb updates for 31 March 2003. I am interested in this record as I have been for several years recording all the information on the various Richland Co ADAMS people. As I tried to fit this record with what I already have, it appears that this woman may be Rose B Howard. Rose B Howard married John Adams in 1868 and had children Villa, Zora, (and probably) infant female, John and Merta Adams. John Adams died in 1878 and in November 1879 Rose married John Christian Ackerman. I had always seen her as Rose B (Howard) (Adams) Ackerman but this record: 1 - Bethsheba R Ackerman - same as Rose B? 2 - she and JC Ackerman were married in Nov 1879, same as the divorce record 3 - she wishes to go back to her previous name of Adams but this does not say her maiden name, it says "restoration to her name before marriage with defendant, Bethsheba Adams." The final decree doesn't show up in this posting which is for the rest of 1896, so I don't know if it was granted or not, however later records indicate that they probably didn't get divorced, or if they did, maybe remarried. Rose & John Ackerman appear together on the 1900 and 1920 census and they are buried together in Bellville Cemetery, he died in 1927 and she died in 1928. She is listed as John's wife in the Mansfield City Directories 1904-1922. ---- this is the divorce record that is posted: Source: Divorce Notes, 1896; extracted from the RICHLAND SHIELD & BANNER; date shown is the publication date of the newspaper; posted on Richland Co GenWeb page 31 Mar 2003 by Amy. 18 July 1896 - Bethsheba R Ackerman has begun an action in probate court against JC Ackerman for divorce and alimony. The parties were married in November, 1879. Plaintiff alleges in her petition that in September, 1885, the defendant threw a lighted lamp at her head. In the fall of 1894 defendant charged plaintiff with being criminally intimate with Ed Scott. At divers times the defendant has charged plaintiff with being unchaste. The plaintiff alleges these charges are untrue. Plaintiff also says she is the owner of their home and prays for divorce and restoration to her name before marriage with defendant, Bethsheba Adams. Pending the action she asks that defendant be restrained from interfering with her or her property and that at the final hearing the injunction be made permanent. She also asks that she be decreed reasonable alimony and for costs of suit.
