The article quoted below was posted yesterday by Amy about the Children's Home. This Mrs August Remy (Mary Whiting) was one of my collateral family. Mary's brother's wife, Alice (Adams) Whiting, also worked at the Children's Home as a cook but that was a bit later. Does anyone know what the late trouble was? what did Mary do to be let go? 1887 Officers & Employees of the Children's Home MANSFIELD WEEKLY NEWS: 08 September 1887, Vol. 3, No. 41 The trustees of the Children's Home met at the building Tuesday. The new Superintendent and matron, Mr. & Mrs. H.G. Palmer, moved in and Mr. & Mrs. J.H. Mowers, moved out, finishing today. The late trouble did not crop out again. Mrs. August Remy also left the institution. The little girls of her department wept bitterly at her departure and pleaded with the trustees that she be allowed to remain. This shows that she is at least capable of winning the affections of those in her care.
