The following info is taken from A.A. Graham's History, which uses both TRUCKS and TRUX for both Abraham and William. Abraham gets more TRUX and William gets more TRUCKS: An AbrahamTRUCKS and his mother Ruth were in Richland County by 1813, because on 9 September of that year, they were appointed as administrators of the estate of father & husband Nicholas TRUCKS. On the other hand, William TRUCKS is not supposed to have arrived in Ohio (Blooming Grove Twp.) until 1817. Based on this info, if Mary Ann was, indeed, born in Richland Co. in 1814, I'd be looking at Nicholas or Abraham before William. However, William TRUCKS of Knox Co., Ohio is listed as first purchaser of all of Section 31 in Blooming Grove Twp. on 18 May 1812, which puts him back in the running. When one Abraham TRUCKS died in Spring of 1838 in Davenport, Scott Co., Wisconsin Territory (now Iowa?), he named his mother Ruth (so he is probably the same one as mentioned above) and sister Mary among his heirs. Two of the three appraisors of the estate of James Johnston, who died intestate in Summer of 1816, were William Trucks and William Trucks, Jr. Abraham Trucks was an appraisor of the estate of John Wolly, who died intestate in the Autumn of 1817. So maybe you have yet another candidate for father! Good hunting! ----- Original Message ----- From: Chamberlin's To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, October 29, 2002 6:45 PM Subject: [OHRICHLA] TRUX or TRUCKS and BOWERS My great-great-greatmother was Mary Ann Trux, according to my information, she was born in Richland County in 1814. according to an 1885 Nebraska census her father was from PA (and I assume named Trux or Trucks) and her mother was born IND. IND would either be from Indiana before there was even a territory called Indiana and any settlements other than Native American or French, or it might mean Indian. The family tradition is that she was French and Indian, and sometimes Cherokee. There actually was a Cherokee settlement in Indiana in the 1700's so that is not totally implausible. Mary Ann married Silas Bowers son of Silas Bowers and Marvel in Huron County on Jan 6, 1833. Their first son was William W. Bowers, born in Blooming Grove Township of Richland Co. in 1835. The family moved west through Illinois, Iowa (maybe to Scott and Clinton counties because other Trux family members had gone there, and maybe some older Trux or Bowers were with them in 1840 in Illinois) and then to the Mormon settlements across from Omaha and then to Nebraska (Kearny and later Florence/Omaha). They had 12 children. Mary Ann seems to have gone to school, since she is listed as reading and writing on the census, but some children did not read and write. Mary Ann died in Omaha after 1900. I know there were many Trucks or Trux in Richland County. Some family records have the Bowers in Trucksville/Ganges. I would appreciate any clarification or extension of what I have. I wondered if Mary Ann's father might be William since that is what they named the first son. The second son was Emory and they also had a John and an Ichabod or Ekebod. ______________________________
