Hi all ... Hope that everyone has been keeping up on the latest news regarding the upcoming changes to Ohio death certificates. If not, I thought that I would post a reminder ..... As of July 1st., you will NO LONGER be able to get UNcertified copies of death certificates (the ones that have been available for five cents). You will only be able to get certified copies, which will also now have an additional $5 surcharge - raising the total to $15 each. The years covered are 1945 to the present. Information on where to get uncertified death certificates before the July 1st. price increase can be found on the Death Records page of the Richland Co. site .... http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohrichla/DeathRecords.htm For those of you who haven't ordered an uncertified copy of a death certificate - the document is simply a photocopy of the record that has been stamped "Statistical Use Only". It is still perfectly acceptable for genealogical research purposes. Also on July 1st. is the possible closure of the death certificate index at the Ohio Historical Society website, which covers 1913 - 1937, a portion of the entire database. The changes there reflect less state financial support of OHS, and staffing reductions. The index can be found at: http://www.ohiohistory.org/dindex/ If you haven't ordered these important records yet, it would be a good idea to get them ordered quickly. Amy
