    3. I am working on the Henry family from Richland County, Ohio. I am a direct decendant of Martin Henry who lived in Morrow County, Ohio. Some of his children moved to Richland County, Ohio where my family lives now. I was born in Mansfield, Ohio. Most of my family is still there and are buried there. I would love to discuss more of this with you. Jesse Henry --------------------------------- Sick sense of humor? Visit Yahoo! TV's Comedy with an Edge to see what's on, when.

Author: DMEK99 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.richland/1331.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Excelent points. Name, dates, and location are critical in filtering information. Keep in mind if you list a name and a place and a date chances are greater that you will connect to a colatteral family that may have information on your family. I just broke through one of my brick walls because I began doing research on a brother-inlaw. His family had a researcher that did much work back in the early 1800's. I was able to tap into those files at a local libray on a road trip this summer. Not only do I have information on my direct line but many other cousins I knew nothing about. Additionaly, families tended to migrate in either family groups, political groups, or religious groups. You may find family sir name groups in clusters. Worth checking out when you are at a brick wall. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: lips01601 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.richland/1331.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I totally agree. When posting a query, it would be a good idea to write the name of the person you are looking for, the dates that they were born or died (or both) and the place (s) where they lived. Most people never bother reading posts that have "please help" or "looking for great grandmother", etc. in the subject field. Author: DMEK99 Surnames: Craig, Martin, Morris, Richland County Ohio Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.richland/1331.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Brovo Jim Boyce I agree that a simple "Please and Thank You" go a long way when you are requesting information from volunteers. And where would us requesters be if it were not for all of you who give your time and information? Might I also suggest. That when requesting information on a message board that you use some standard genealogy practices. Requests shoud be made using standard writting format. Not internet all lower case and no punctuation. It makes for clearer communication. Example when I see "read" Do you want me to read the word, or look for a family by the name of "READ" or "Read". Many of us scan the postings looking for cousins, and willing to share information. I would never catch a read, more, or see, if they were not READ, MORE or SEE (Read, More, or See). While a cumberson way to write using a format that is standard to the genealogy researcher will get you more information, and isn't that the reason we post a request or give information? Using headers with the sir names is also very helpfull. Thanks to all who share information. Mary Ellen Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: jameseboyce Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.richland/1331/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I think the following exchange of emails makes my point: ----- Original Message ----- From: xxxxx To: james.e.boyce@wanadoo.fr Sent: Friday, July 20, 2007 5:19 PM Subject: Will Abstracts Lookup I was wondering if you could tell me if there was a will for a Thomas Dekay XXX died Oct 2 1857 in Springfield Township, Richland county, Ohio His wife's name was Elizabeth C. he had nine children. Thanks for your time. Dear Xxxx, Your Thomas XXX does not seem to appear in this book (odd, that is). There are 2 references to a Thomas XXX in the book: Based on the 1850 Census of SHARON Twp, RCO, this Thomas XXX (wife Currrence) is the son of your TDR and is named with wife Currence in will of Dennis XXXXX (also of Sharon Twp). Based on the 1870 Census of xxxxxxxxx, Illinois, this is the same Thomas XXX (s/o Thomas DK), who apparently claimed (on 1 November 1870, pursuant to releases) the bulk of the estate of Peleg K. XXXXXXXX , who died in Sharon Twp between March & August 18XX, and who had as one of the executors of his estate one Treat XXXXX, most likely Currence/Concurrence's brother. From: XXXXXX To: james.e.boyce@wanadoo.fr Sent: Saturday, July 21, 2007 12:22 AM Subject: Re: Will Abstracts Lookup The Thomas that I need is this Thomas XXX's father Thanks Dear Xxxxxx, I understood that. But he does not appear in the records I have. I suggest you contact the RCO Probate Court and ask them to search their records. I also recommend the use of a salutation (Dear So-and-so) and a polite sign-off (Regards, Me) in any other contacts you make with volunteers. We often have additional sources and are happy to research them, but can seldom be motivated to do so by emails that do not address us as persons or that treat us as just another online database. Because I think this breach of politeness is important, I am copying this response to the RCO GenWeb Website. Best regards, Jim Boyce Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
