My website is www.oldohioschools.com The schools I need information and pictures for are as follows: 1. Shiloh High School (old) What year was it built? What year was it razed? 2. Woodville School (Cook Road, Mansfield, Built 1957) What year was this school closed? Why is it abandoned? 3. Weller Township School (Union High School) What year was this school built? What year did it close as a school? Why is it abandoned? 4. Fleming Falls School (Mansfield, Built 1956) What year was this school closed as a Mansfield City School? 5. Whitney Elementary School (Russell) - Shelby What year did this school close? 6. Lincoln High School (Grace Street, Mansfield, Built 1957) What year did this school close as a Madison Public School? If you can provide pictures or information about these schools or any other old schools in your county, please email me at aaronturner@neo.rr.com and visit www.oldohioschools.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The school on Woodville is closed because the paint and the pipes all contain led and the renivation would cost more to do than to level the building and start over. Also, there is or was a wooden fence across the street where an old one room school house used to sit years ago my mom said. She told me that it was knocked down sometime in the 70's she things because it was in such disrepair. I believe at the Mansfield/Richland County Library in downtown Mansfield in the Sherman Room (where all the genealogy stuff is) there is a book, if I remember right, about old school houses in Richland County. I hope this helps and if there is anything else, just let me know. Hello Randy....I am researching these surnames in theJefferson Co Ohio area(1798-1810) and then Richland Co Ohio area from 1810-1870. Burget/Burgett Callin/Callon Crabbs Cruson Ferrell/Farrell/Firl Houston/Huston Jump Mercer Montgomery Nottingham/Notingham Ramey/Ramie/Rayma There are about 12 other surnames that I frequently find living nearby throughout the migration pattern of my Montgomery's 1760's-1930 ( Virginia>Pennsylvania>Ohio>Illinois>Iowa) but I have not been able to make a direct connection as yet. I would be so appreciative of any further info you may have....Thank You so much for responding....Sherry in Texas Randi Meetzen <meetzen@sbcglobal.net> wrote: What other names are you looking for in this cemetery? sherry hatfield wrote: Becky..Thank you for this information....I was using info from www.rootsweb.com/~ohrichla/cemeteries.htm......It only list her name Anne Ramey and DOD as 2/10/1848,no mention of age.I have a legal proceeding from the Common Pleas court in Richland Co.1847-1848. Hi Shelley, The Beeney family that you mentioned is part of my husband's line. This is how he is related: 1. James & Sarah BEENY, born in England, came to the U.S. in 1822 and settled in Clinton, Knox Co., OH. They lived in Clinton about 3 years and moved to a farm in Clinton Twp. until 1855, and then moved to Licking Co., OH. James died in Nov. 1860, followed by his wife in 1870. They had 10 children, 6 sons and 4 daughters. One of the sons was Joseph BEENY listed below. 2. Joseph BEENY/BEENEY was born 8 Oct. 1802 in England, married Hannah WRIGHT in 1822 in England and came to the U.S. with his parents (listed above). He and Sarah lived with his parents, James & Sarah BEENY, until 1825 when he moved to Liberty Twp., Knox Co., OH. They lived there several years then bought several other farms. In 1850 Joseph bought a farm 3 miles from Mt. Vernon on the Columbus Rd. Joseph died in 1915. He and his wife had 10 children: 6 sons and 4 daughters. One of the sons was Henry John BEENEY, listed below. 3. Henry John BEENEY was born 29 July 1843-45 and married Margaret "Maggie" S. POLAND. Henry died 17 Dec. 1919 in Liberty Twp., Knox Co., OH. His wife "Maggie" was born 28 Apr. 1847 and died 8 Mar. 1923 in Liberty Twp., Knox Co., OH. They had a least 1 daughter, Mamie BEENEY, listed below. Henry is buried in Mound View Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, OH. I have old photos of Henry and Margaret "Mamie" BEENEY at their home. Henry's sister, Harriet BEENEY Britton, is also in the photo. * I believe the William BEENY/BEENEY you listed is a brother of Henry John BEENEY. 4. Mamie BEENEY was born 11 Mar. 1881 and married Edwin L. BROWN on 20 May 1903. She died 30 Oct. 1918. Edwin was born 8 Aug. 1874 and died 20 Mar. 1953. Both are buried in Friendship Cemetery, Liberty Twp., Knox Co., OH. They had 5 children: Lawrence, Ralph, Margaret (listed below), Frances, and Eleanor. 5. Margaret I. BROWN was born in 1908 and married Harry THOMPSON on 21 Dec. 1946 in Mt. Vernon. Margaret died 2 Jan, 1994 in Mt. Vernon and is buried in Friendship Cemetery, Knox Co., OH. They had 1 son, Jerry D. THOMPSON (listed below). 6. Jerry D. THOMPSON was born 13 Oct. 1947 in Mt. Vernon, Knox Co., OH and married Gretchen Danja (Kindinger) Schaefer on 2 July 1994 in Mansfield, Richland Co., OH. The above info. was all I could find at 5 am when I read your e-mail. Are you able to scan the photos and e-mail them to me at dthompson2@neo.rr.com? That way I will have a copy and you could give the originals to Ross and Clay's families, if you find their direct descendants.
