Dear Listers, Recently, a friend in Ashland Co., OH, visited Easterly Cemetery, Worthington Twp., Richland County, OH, to take pictures of my ancestors' graves. She was appalled by the decay and disarray of what she found there. (See photos of Easterly Cemetery on the RCO website.) Consequently, I am curious to know if any one or any organization is actively pursuing a restoration of this historic Revolutionary War cemetery. Can anyone out there in List land help me find an answer to this? Thank you. Letha Chunn-Mendivil

Is there anyone on the list who remembers Mildred Terman who hosted a cooking school of the air over the first radio station KDKA, Pittsburgh?? The years were around 1930. She was sort of a Julia Childs of radio. The station was very strong and even received as far away as Iowa. Would love to hear from anyone who remembers the show. Janet (Terman) Newman
Hi all ... Just wanted to let you all know that I will be adding Ashland Co. to the sites with which I'm involved. I have taken over as Co. Coordinator of that site, and Myrna Singer Casey is going to be the Assistant Co. Coordinator for the site. The site has been pretty quiet over the last few months -- so it is going to take some effort to get it going again. The site has been moved over to the Rootsweb servers ... so there's a new URL ... http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohashlan/ The link has been added to the main Richland Co. page ... so you can also get there from that link in the "Our Neighbors" section towards the bottom of the page. I hope that all of you will be willing to contribute your obituaries, headstone photos, biographies, etc. to help the site get up and running. There's not much info. at the site right now -- so, we're going to need all the help that we can get. Amy

I know this may be the wrong county and forum, but was wondering if anyone had any information on the Knox County Masonic Lodge. There was a Thomas McClure who was inducted 1813 there in some sort of ceremony. The article didn't say much, Amariah Watson was one of the members. Not sure if this is my Thomas McCluer or not, but would be interested in finding out if the Masonic Lodge divulges records of past members or inductees. Also, where I would write to find out any details if permitted. From the Knox County History: "John Greer, John Garrison, John Haldeman and Thomas McClure were initiated in January, 1813...Ammoriah and Samuel Watson, at their request were permitted to pay their dues as quarterly members...In the same year that Knox county was organized the initiatory steps were taken for the organization of a Masonic lodge; the petition drawn up for this purpose, as above recited, was presented in the first month of the following year, 1809, and the original dispensation was numbered "7," though subsequently changed to "9." The first Master of the Lodge was Samuel H. Smith. The first Public installation of officers was Samuel H. Smith, W. M.; Alfred Manning, S. W.; Ichabod Nye, J.W.; Samuel Nye, Treasurer; Oliver Strong, Secretary; Wm. F. Roberts, S. D.: James Miller, J. D.; Wm. Bartlett, Peter Wolf; Stewards; Richard Fishback, Tyler. Among the members of the Lodge in 1811 and 1812 were: Amoriah Watson, George Downs, Peter Kinney, John Barney, Abner Ayres, John Wheeler, Charles Barne! y, R. N. Powers, Charles Lofland, Jesse Proctor, Wm. Winship, Rufus Crosby, Nicholas C. Boalse, P. M." My Thomas McCluer was in the area at the time and was involved in the War of 1812 and it has been speculated by some articles he and his kinsmen where living in Knox County while Richland County was under threat of attack. thanks in advance, James W. I knew I had information on the William Trucks/Trux family. This information is from a very lengthy Court Case sent to me by Nancy Hidinger of the Richland County Genealogical Society. On page 2, of Common Pleas Court Case, 1839-Q-2f: "...April..1831...the said William Trucks the Younger leaving as his children and heirs at law, Lura Vanfossen, formerly Lura Trucks, who has intermarried with Levy Vanfossen and Sophia Lewis, formerly Sophia Trucks who has intermarried with Alvin N. Lewis and Lydia Trucks the Younger of said Richland County and Julia Trucks of Huron County in said State and Lucy Ann Trucks of Lurcen (sic) County State of Pennsylvania and George Trucks and Clarrissa Trucks Charles Trucks John Trucks Emily Trucks and Porter A. Trucks of said County of Richland. The said Lucy Ann, George, Clarrissa, Charles, John & Porter A. being minors under the age of twenty one years ---- and Lydia Trucks the Elder, the widow of the said William Trucks the Younger." Also, a clue that an Abraham Trucks may somehow be connected to this dispute of William Trucks' Estate. Common Pleas Court...1839-Q-2f "The Sheriff of Said County....We command you that you Subpoena Abraham Trucks, James N. Ayres, Daniel Ayres & Pamelia Ayers, his wife, William Ayers and Edward Murphy." Deposition of John Bowers of Luzerne County of state of Pennsylvania, 1839-q-2- u "I the said John Bowers being of Lawful age and duly sworn on my said oath...that I have been well acquainted with William Trucks the Father of Lucy Ann Trucks and that said William Trucks has been gone from Luzerne County to Ohio the year one thousand eight hundred & fifteen in the month of July or August and further saith not." In the same depositon, Lucrecia Bowman of Luzerne County state of Pennsylvania "...When William Trucks and family moved from Luzerne County to Ohio the Mother of Lucy Ann Trucks said that Lucy Ann Trucks was then about two and a half years old and from appearance I...that was about her age and further saith not." Court of Common Pleas 1839-q-2Deposition "I John Bowman of Lawfull age and...I was well acquainted with William Trucks th eElder Late of Said Richland County deceased and I was well acquainted with William Trucks the Younger and George Trucks both of whom were sons of the said William Trucks the Elder. I was acquainted with the said Sylvania Holgate wife of James Holgate and the said Maria Trucks...I do further depose and say that the said Sylvinia and Maria are the daughters of the said George Trucks and the Grand Daughters of the said William Trucks the Elder and the said George Trucks has been reported dead for many Years..." One researcher puts Nicholas Trux as the husband of Ruth Trux, parents of John J. Trux. There is a John Trucks who marries Mary Haller, 12 May 1831 in Huron County, Ohio. A Mary Ann Trux who marries a Silas Bowers 6 January 1833, Huron County, Ohio and a Lydia Trux who marries a Lazerus Evans 5 Dec 1836, Huron County, Ohio. That's all I have for now on the Trucks family. I'm still looking for the parents of Susannah Trucks who married Thomas McCluer. Susannah Trucks, b. about 1790, PA, d. August 1838, Illinois. James W. The following info is taken from A.A. Graham's History, which uses both TRUCKS and TRUX for both Abraham and William. Abraham gets more TRUX and William gets more TRUCKS: An AbrahamTRUCKS and his mother Ruth were in Richland County by 1813, because on 9 September of that year, they were appointed as administrators of the estate of father & husband Nicholas TRUCKS. On the other hand, William TRUCKS is not supposed to have arrived in Ohio (Blooming Grove Twp.) until 1817. Based on this info, if Mary Ann was, indeed, born in Richland Co. in 1814, I'd be looking at Nicholas or Abraham before William. However, William TRUCKS of Knox Co., Ohio is listed as first purchaser of all of Section 31 in Blooming Grove Twp. on 18 May 1812, which puts him back in the running. When one Abraham TRUCKS died in Spring of 1838 in Davenport, Scott Co., Wisconsin Territory (now Iowa?), he named his mother Ruth (so he is probably the same one as mentioned above) and sister Mary among his heirs. Two of the three appraisors of the estate of James Johnston, who died intestate in Summer of 1816, were William Trucks and William Trucks, Jr. Abraham Trucks was an appraisor of the estate of John Wolly, who died intestate in the Autumn of 1817. So maybe you have yet another candidate for father!
