I believe this is so because in the 1850 Jefferson Twp, Richland County census, Jackson and Mina Moore are listed in the same household with a Thomas Moore, of the correct age, and close in age to Jackson. Also in the household are Abraham and Hannah Moore, their parents. I also believe that this is the correct Thomas Moore, because his future wife, Rachel LeFever is listed in the same township, and they were married in 1851. If this really is my Thomas Moore, I now know what his parents' names were, and more about his family. This is what I know about Thomas Moore: Born in 1827 in Knox Co., Ohio Married Rachel P. Lefever on October 30, 1851 Lived their entire married lives in Bellville, Richland Co., Ohio Had two daughers, Genette Louise (my GG grandmother) and Cornelia Coral Died in Richland Co., Ohio on 12-18-1882 If you know anything more about the Moore family, I would greatly appreciate a return post, or email me at [email protected] Thanks so much, Steph Day Jobes

Richland Co. USGenWeb Site Update ... 13 September 2003 http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohrichla/ NOTE ... Thanks to everyone for sending me their kind notes of concern during the past couple of weeks. I've been trying to stay on track with the website despite a family emergency which took place early in August - which has thankfully been resolved now. And, right on the heels of that the illness of my 3½ year old dachshund which has had us running back and forth to Galion and Columbus for the past five weeks. She had abdominal surgery the third week of August, and back surgery in Columbus on the 4th. of September. She has lost the use of her rear legs and requires a lot of TLC (and plenty of clean towels) right now -- and my husband and I have been absolutely exhausted. But, today I was actually able to spend some quality time at the computer -- and was able to get a few files ready to be uploaded to the site. We're developing a routine now with the dog, and I'm sure that as the weeks of recovery go on -- we'll become more accustomed to the new tasks, and life will return to somewhat normal. I'm still checking my e-mail throughout the day, so if you send files, I will receive them -- and they will get uploaded! Thanks again to all who have written! :) -- Amy. Lori, I am a Great-Great-Grandson of Samuel and Sarah (Holmes) Osbun. I am descended from Nathaniel's brother Jacob who married Rachael Bradley in 1821. The third child of this marriage was Jane Luella Osbun who married Jacob Mottayaw in 1863. The fifth child of this marriage was Artie Jane Mottayaw who married my Grandfather, Herbert Onzlaw Doolittle, in 1894. The forth child of this marriage was Lois Mandana Doolittle who married by Father, Howard Heilman in 1928. The current newspapers available through Ancestry.com, namely Mansfield New and Mansfield News Journal, have extensive information on the Osbun/Mottayaw/Doolittle families that resided in the Richland County area, namely Weller, Madison and Franklin Townships. I have limited information on Samuel and Sarah Osbun. Samuel was born in 1742 in Kingston, Summerset Ct., NJ. and Sarah in 1750 also in NJ. Both are buried in the Osbun/Pittinger Cemetery in Weller Township, Richland County. Samuel died Dec. 10, 1832 and Sarah on Jan. 8, 1842. I know nothing of the parents. During the nations bicentennial, the Richland County Genealogical Society published a pamphlet "heritage, Solders of Richland County" which includes the life of Samuel Osbun. I can scan or mail you a copy of the four pages on Samuel Osbun if you are interested. Your e-mail helped to fill in Nathaniel's side of tree. Thanks. Jim Heilman Niceville, Fl.

I am new to this list, having been on it many years ago, I am looking for any information (dates, relatives, stories) on the following individuals. I wasn't sure if colors came through, but my direct line has an asterisk (*) by it. A little background info-- David YOUNG moved with his wife, Catherine HORNER YOUNG from PA to OH in between 1832 and 1834. Their sons George YOUNG, Samuel YOUNG and daughter Eliza YOUNG all married into the same THOMAS family, marrying brother/sisters. Parents David and Catherine (HORNER)YOUNG both died in Ashland County, and are buried in a Cemetery near Steamtown. Any further information on the parents and children/families would greatly be appreciated. Son Daniel YOUNG (my line) moved from Ashland in 1876 to McPherson CO., Kansas. Thanks for any and all help! I just found out not that long ago that I am related to this family. I'm going to post the e-mail my grandfather's wife sent because In a way it't too confusing for me to write out...lol :o) "I came across a letter written to your Grandfather in 1976 from a fifth cousin who wanted info for the Osbun family history. Grandpa does not know her name. Here is what she wrote: We both descend from one couple- Samuel Osbun (Revolutionary War soldier) and his wife Sarah (Holmes)The Osbuns were early pioneers of Ohio and settled about 1813 in Richland County,Ohio. She (writer of letter) stems from their oldest child Nathaniel, while she says Grandpa stems from their sixth child Isaac Osbun. Isaac married and had at least eight children. His sixth child was Charles Osbun. Charles Osbun in turn married Anne Elizabeth Hand and their fourth child was Laura Cecilia Osbun. Laura Osbun in turn married Charles Lynde, who are Grandpa's Great-grandparents. Laura Osbun Lynde's first child was Edna Lynde who married Bertrand Miller and their first child was Rachel Dorothy Miller who married Robert M. Moore, Grandpa's Mother and Father. This person was trying to fill in inforegarding the Osbun family, but it seems to be helping the Moore family. She included : Laura Cecilia Osbun, born Feb. 11, 1852 in Richland County, Ohio-- died Feb 22, 1933 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio-- is buried in Pavonia Cemetery in Richland County, Ohio. On October 2,1872 in Richland County, Ohio, she married Charles H. Lynde. Charles Lynde was born in 1844 in Summit County, Ohio. He died December 16, 1917 Edna died in Cuyahoga County, Ohio and is buried in Mount Gilead Cemetery in Morrow County, Ohio. She had been married to Bertrand Miller who was born December 17, 1874 in Morrow County, Ohio. He died April 14,1930 in Cuyahoga County, and was cremated in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. They had \two children, Rachel and Laurence.Rachel was your grandfather's mother. Rachel Dorothy Miller Moore died about 1958. Her brother Laurence died about 10 years earlier, in about 1948." I'm just interested in learning about this side of them family because it was a surprise for me...most of the other parts of my family didn't come to the US till the mid 1800's or later. If this helps anyone out i'll be happy. I think it would be neat to get in contact with some of the decendants of this family. Lori Moore [email protected]

The 1860 census for Monroe Co, Richland Co, OH shows: John Adams age 26 farmer born PA Malinda J Adams age 20 born PA [John's wife] Mary A Adams age 18 domestic born PA John Benbaker or Brubaker age 16 farm hand born OH. Does anyone know anything further on John Benbaker/Brubaker? Did he possibly marry Mary Adams? For several years I have been searching for the parents of my great4-grandmother Mary Stoner who married George Schreffler 16 May 1939 in Richland co., OH. Through recent contact with Jacklyn Pifer in Ohio, who has assembled much material on Mary's parents and siblings and did wonderful research on this family, it is now known that Mary Stoners' parents were: John Stoner, b. 1790 PA, d. 10 Aug 1848 LaGrange, IN, bu. Eagle Cemetery, Greenfield Twp, LaGrange, IN. He m. say 1810, Rebecca _______, b. abt 1793 PA, d. 22 Feb 1854 West Unity, Williams, OH. John and Rebecca came early Richland co., OH before 1817. He may be the John Stoner mentioned in Graham's "The History of Richland Co., Ohio," as being in Blooming Grove Twp. I originally thought this John could be part of the Richland county Stoner family (sons of Abraham Stoner) mentioned in Richard Weber's "Jacob Stoner and the Seven Siblings" in, but they seem to have come to Richland co., much later, and are found in Franklin twp. I believe our John Stoner is the John who appears in the 1820-1840 Census in Blooming Grove twp as follows: 1820 - Males - 4 up to 10 years, 1 16 to 25y, 1 36 to 45y, 1 45y+. Females - 1 up to 10y, 1 16 to 25y. 1830 - Males - 2 under 5 years, 1 5 to 14y, 2 15 to 19y, 1 30 to 39y. Females - 1 under 5y, 1 5 to 9y, 1 10 to 14y, 1 30 to 39y. 1840 - Males - 1 under 5 years, 3 5 to 9y, 2 10 to 14y, 1 20 to 29y, 1 50 to 59y, 1 80 to 89y. Females - 2 15 to 19y, 1 40 to 49y. This family matches well with the census records (exactly in the 1830 census). It's my opinion that this John Stoner is possible brother to Henry Stoner (1794-1879) who is buried at Presbyterian Cemetery, in Blooming Grove Twp, Richland co., OH. Could they also be sons of the Rev. War Pvt. John Stoner (1759-1845) who is also buried there? Rebecca Stoner's will of 24 Feb 1854 names her three youngest sons; Alfred, Abner and Nathan. An annex to her will gives the name of 11 children alive in April 1855. They were "Abner & Nathan Stoner who are minors, Catherine Pifer wife of George F. Pifer, George Stoner, Jacob Stoner, John Stoner, Henry Stoner, Absolom Stoner, Alfred Stoner, Mary Shreffler wife of George Shreffler, and Elisabeth Chambers wife of Thomas Chambers. Abner Stoner died in Garrett, DeKalb, IN, 16 Mar 1900. His obituary notes; "(He) was born near Mansfield, Ohio...when but a boy his parents moved to LaGrange, Ind., were his father died, his mother moving to West Unity, O., making this her home until her death." With so many of the Stoner children easily followed in the census records of 1850 to 1910, I list below the 11 children of John and Rebecca Stoner. The two oldest males are the only ones I am not 100% sure about, but I believe there is enough circumstantial evidence to assign them to this family. 1. George Stoner, b. PA abt 1812, d. bef 1880; m. 18 Mar 1838, Richland co., OH, Margaret Rice b. Jan 1822, d. aft 1900. Family lived in Richland and Williams counties, OH. 6 known children 2. Jacob F. Stoner, b. prob.
