Hi all ... This is just a quick note to the entire group to let everyone know that there has been NO change in my status as County Coordinator (CC) of the Richland Co., Ohio USGenWeb site. I am still the CC -- absolutely NO change has taken place. I returned home from a great day in Columbus (shopping for quilting goodies), to find my e-mail box flooded with messages from listmembers about an e-mail that had gone out earlier today from Wendi, who runs the page for Richland Co. on the ohiogravestones.org project. That is another project entirely, separate from our Richland County USGenWeb Site. I encourage everyone to visit Wendi's site, and continue contributing to both our Richland Co., Ohio USGenWeb Project page, as well as the ohiogravestones.org project. The more places that we can place our information, the more opportunities there are to make connections with others working on the same family lines. While we're discussing other projects, you might want to take a chance to visit some of the other special project pages that Rootsweb and USGenWeb offer. Here are two links that you may find useful. USGenWeb Special Projects: http://www.usgenweb.com/projects/index.shtml Rootsweb: http://www.rootsweb.com/ If you have any questions ... feel free to contact me privately at: AmyeA@aol.com. And to all of you who were concerned about me, my recent health issues, and my involvement with the project -- thanks SO MUCH for taking the time to write. I truly appreciate your kind thoughts and concern. Amy E. Greetings Richland County Researchers, I would invite you to check out the Ohio Gravestone Photo Project and participate in its growth as it will only grow with everyone's involvement. The Ohiogravestones.org is a wonderful tool to preserve the headstones of your ancestors. With the advent of time and weather and vandalism, our headstones are disappearing at an alarming rate. We need to work on preserving a digital image of our family stones as a fitting tribute to our ancestors. This site is an easy-to-use site that exists to make this preservation possible. Additionally there is no cost to the contributor or to anyone wanting to view the photos, hard to find in this day and age where everything costs something. Plus this is a great way to have a backup for all those photos you presently have. There are no annoying ads flashing, moving or popping. Particularly valuable are those very old headstone photos that you have in grandma's photo album. Scan them into your computer and add them to the site as they may be the only testament to your ancestors life. Share them with the world. The link for the Richland County GPP is: http://ohiogravestones.org/cemeteries.php?selected_cid=70 Richland County presently only has 16 photos and we need more. I am asking for your help, please add your photos to the site. The link to the Ohio GPP is: http://ohiogravestones.org/ I am your Richland Co. coordinator and I am truly excited about being involved. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me or respond to this message. Thank you very much! Wendi E. Scally your Richland County Coordinator
Carol in California Writes: Are you related to Benjamin Bair of Mansfield? I honestly don't know. John Bair was born 1796 in PA. I don't know who John's siblings were, or his parents. John and his wife Magdalena were both Mennonite, and seemed to follow the Wisler Congregation's migration from PA>OH>IN. I'm tracing land transactions hoping eventually to find a relative, either buying or selling. Sorry we can't connect, YET? Kathleen

In Response to: Have you tried Land <http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/PatentSearch/Detail.asp?Accession=OH0560%5F%5 F%2E063&Index=1&QryID=53606%2E55&DetailTab=2> Patent Details - BLM GLO Records Yes I have. There's no record, so he must have purchased the land from a private owner. I've also tried the FHL catalog with no luck, so far. I should have mentioned this all sooner, I'm sorry. I've traced his ownership in Columbiana Co, OH prior to his moving to Richland Co. through the microfilm of the Tax Books (FHL), but I can't seem to locate anything for Richland. John and his wife Magdalena were both Mennonite. John is found 1840 Census/Madison Twp/ living near; John German, John Whisler, Christian Layman and George Castle. I may just have to schedule a visit next year. Thank You for the reply Kathleen
Does anyone on the list have access (or know of anyone) to the Richland Co, OH Tax Lists/Records? I'm especially interested in Madison Twp 1837 -1857. Looking for John Bair/Baer/Bear/etc. I would like to know who he purchased the land from in 1837 and what the Description and Acreage was. Also interested if there were Myers and/or Kindigs living near. Thank You in advance for your time and consideration. Kathleen Bair Johnson Newcastle, CA

Fellow genealogists and anyone concerned with preserving our sacred cemeteries, Time Warner and The History Channel are sponsoring a 'Save Our History' grant award for which people can go online and cast their vote. Voting ends on April 27th, so time is short. Our Ohio restoration project was the only cemetery project to be chosen as one of the five finalists, so I truly hope that you will go to the Time Warner website and cast your vote for the James Cemetery project. If awarded this grant, we will use 100% of the grant to begin installing an antique-style aluminum alloy fence around the perimeter in order to help halt further desecration of this sacred and historic burial ground. You can read more about our James Cemetery project at the Time Warner 'Save Our History' voting website. Please unite with us as a group of genealogists concerned about the ever-increasing destruction of our cemeteries by VOTING for us at the website below. And note also that ANYONE with Internet access can VOTE so please forward this email to your genealogy circle of friends and ask THEM to vote too! www.aroundrr.com/SaveOurHistory Anthony Coyan Secretary, Jackson County Chapter - Ohio Genealogical Society

For those of you with ancestors in Wayne County, Ohio, see the note below regarding some great census info. that has been placed on-line. Amy CC, Richland Co., Ohio USGenWeb Site http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohrichla/ The Wayne County Genealogical Society has recently been given some very early county census records - 1815, 1819 and 1823. They have been scanned and can be accessed at the Wayne County Public Library site: www.wayne.lib.oh.us/overview.asp. This is the link to their online materials. From there you can find the 1815, 1919 or the 1823 census records. The Wayne County page of the US GenWeb has the census records indexed. The link for this is: www.rootsweb.com/~ohwayne/census/census.htm. There is also a link from the library page to the Wayne County page, where you can also access the indexes. ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
