Hello, I am looking for any HINDS Family in Portage, Ohio...sometimes it has been mis-spelled HINES. I have been researching the ERASTUS HINDS Family, Erastus was born abt. 1824 in Massachusetts, (I have his family background), & wife was EMMA/EMILY (most likely maiden name is ROUSE, born about 1826 in New York. Their children that I know of are CARRIE (Carolyn?) HINDS born abt 1861 in Portage, OHIO, and GEORGE E. HINDS, born abt 1851 in Portage, Ohio. By the 1880 census Erastus & Emily & Carrie HINDS are living next door to their son, George, & his family in KENT, PORTAGE, OHIO. George is married to ANN HINDS, (maiden name unk), born abt 1853 in OHIO, their children are: JESSIE HINDS, female, born about 1878 & son ALBERT HINDS ,born abt 1879 in OHIO. Living with the George HINDS family in Kent in 1880 is JULIA PARKINSON, age 19 born in Ireland, domestic servant...MARTHA ROGERS, age 35 born in OHIO, School Teacher....and Lewis Lickens, age 55, born in Pennsylvania, G! ardener & Farmer. George Hinds was a Depot Master in 1880. I'd like to find any possible records of these HINDS, marriage, death, birth, etc....and any of their descendants :-). TIA, Janet & Family

Hello! I am searching for information about the Shannon family and migration into NE Ohio. Here's the information I have...I've hit a brick wall as to the origin of this family. All I know is that they resided in Brimfield, Portage County, Ohio. Silas Shannon was a cooper (barrel maker) by trade and ran a cooper's shop in Brimfield. Silas Shannon (b.ca. 1820) married Louisa Moulton (b. ca. 1823) in Portage County, Ohio on January 21, 1844. They had 6 children: Sarah E. Shannon (b. ca. 1845) Mariah L. Shannon (b. September 9, 1846 d. April 20, 1906) William A. Shannon (b. ca. 1849) Warren Shannon (b. ca 1858) Charles Shannon Josephine "Josie" Estella Shannon (b. September 6, 1864 d. January 2, 1939 m. Richard "Dick" Riley Bunker October 13, 1884) Josie is my great grandmother. Josie, Richard, and Mariah are buried at the Restland Cemetery in Brimfield, Ohio. I'm just guessing, but it looks like Silas' brother was named William, as in 1860 William was living with Silas and in 1870 William was living next door. Hope this helps.
