    1. [OHPort'ge] Cemetery transcriptions - Re: Little towns in Portage County
    2. For those of you researching Portage County ancestors, I'm working on a website that gives transcriptions of headstones, and pictures of each stone. I'm concentrating mostly on Portage County right now, although I'm also working on a few cemeteries in Cuyahoga and Summit counties, also. You can find the website here: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ohiocem/ I've already transcribed the Olde Cemetery in Rootstown, which has a few 1776 vets, and many Civil War vets in it. Just go to Portage County, and each cemetery is listed separately. Interestingly enough, Ye Olde Cemetery in Rootstown is the first cemetery where my husband and I actually got a picture of a ghost, but that's another story :) This is also the first cemetery where a tombstone actually listed a date of death as February 30th. I usually spend spring and summer walking the cemeteries, and late fall and winter typing up the transcriptions and putting them on the web, so keep checking back, I have a lot of work to do this winter! Please feel free to contact me directly if you wish with questions about the cemeteries and the transcriptions. My goal is to eventually transcribe all of the 'small' cemeteries in Portage County (most of the very large cemeteries like Standing Rock and Maple Grove have cemetery sexton's keeping records), before they become totally effaced by the weather. 3. Chris, You're doing a great job. I know this has to be really time consuming. I'm originally from Ravenna OH, but have lived in Louisiana for 25+ years. This helps me out tremendously, as I am sure it does others. I have a question, where is the Maple Grove Cemetery you mentioned? Do they have records online or information on how to contact the "sextons"? at this cemetery? Thanks again, Donna Jean itsmeagain@att.net
