Ohhhhhh Marci : I think you are slightly confused! As someone else stated recently, the Western Reserve was laid out (surveyed) into ranges and townships, with a Range being 30 miles square, consisting of 6x6=36 townships, each 5 miles square. Deerfield, Palmyra, Edinburg, Paris, Charlestown, and Ravenna(Twp, as opposed to City) are each individual townships, and not a part of each other. Diamond is an exception, being the name of the railroad stop, which IS in Palmyra township. Diamond center is about 1.5 miles due east of Palmyra center, and the mailing address (Post Office) for most of Palmyra, is Diamond, Ohio. The PO was originally located in Diamond because of the railroad. As a side note, Paris, Palmyra, Deerfield, Edinburg and Charlestown make up Southeast School district, formed in the 1950's from the 5 independent township schools, and so named because the 5 townships lie in the southeast corner of Portage County. I haven't lived in the area for quite a few years, but I think that the City of Ravenna has still not grown beyond the boundaries of Ravenna Township, unlike many other, larger cities which today encompass multiple townships, or parts of several: Cleveland, Akron, Columbus, Youngstown, . . . I too am interested in Rootstown. I have a "brick wall" gg-grandmother who was born there circa 1863.
