The Portage and Summit County Pioneer Association was organized in 1874, and the soft cover book was copyrighted in 1972 by Peggie Seitz James. I have a copy of the book. Briefly: the idea was first presented at a Haymaker Family Reunion, shortly after the Civil War. The families in attendance were Portage County families. They agreed to discuss this at a future reunion but the deaths of some of the key persons cancelled the reunions. Finally a date was set for 20 Feb 1874 and a number of relatives and old residents of Portage & Summit Counties met in the home of Samuel Olin. The first official meeting was 20 Oct 1874, and this was held at Christian Cackler's, who was elected the first president at 83 years of age. There was a display of pioneer relics and old time records, most of which were later given to the Congregational Church of Tallmadged Ohio (Summit County). The last record of a meeting was the 64th on 5 August 1938 at Brady Lake. Less than 40 persons attended. A collection of over 300 photos of people and scenes were lost in a fire on 3 April 1906 when Samuel Williard's home burned. The Articles of Incorporation are dated 31 Oct 1887. The information listed for each settler (if known) is: Date joined, name of member, age, married (date), settled and residence. I believe the first column might be date of death, but it is not labeled. Page 51 is "A few names of the old men and women who have died in Summit & Portage Counties, whose names are not on the record book - 1922-23. Page 52 - a few of the names of the oldest members who have died in Portage Co during 1923-24, and Ravenna members 80 and past.
