Hi all: I have a question that I wonder if anyone can help me with. I have a reference that my ancestors, Robert and Margaret Hazlett, sold land to the Suffield Township Trustees in 1816 (Lot 33 in Suffield Twp). Then in 1821, there is another deed On April 30, 1821, Archibald Hazlett and his wife Margaret of Suffield, Portage County, Ohio, sold land on Lot 23, to Moses Miller for $111.00. This land was bounded as follows: On the south side of land deeded by Robert Hazlett to the Trustees of Randolph. (Vol. 6, Pg. 5) This deed was for land in Suffield, but does anyone know why it says that the south side property was land deeded by Robert Hazlett to the Trustees of Randolph? I can't figure out if this last deed is referring to land in Suffield Twp. or Randolph Twp. Were Suffield Twp. and Randolph Twp. the same townships back in 1821?? Or were they right next to each other and this Lot was on the border of Suffield Twp. and Randolph Twp. Or does it appear that Robert Hazlett deeded two separate parcels of land, one to the Suffield Twp. Trustees and also another piece of land to the Randolph Trustees? Note that we are talking about one Lot #33 and another Lot #23. I have the 1874-1978 Bicentennial Atlas of Portage County and see that in Suffield Twp. Lot #33 and Lot #23 are near the town square, so it would make sense that it was sold to the Township Trustees for some purpose. Does anyone know where I might find maps of Suffield Twp. for the 1816-1821 time period? Does anyone know if there are records kept on the minutes of the meetings of the Suffield Twp. or Randolph Twp. Trustees, so that I might look to see if any mention was made of these transactions. And one last question, does anyone know where the Civil Dockets for the 1810-1820 period are located and if I would be able to search through them? Thanks for any help that anyone can offer.
