    2. The Portage County Recorder's Office has deed indexes from the beginning of the county to the present. http://www.portageworkforce.org/portagecountydirectory/electedofficals/recorder. htm University of Akron Archival Services has tax duplicates to about 1853. http://www3.uakron.edu/archival/ Portage County Historical Society has tax duplicates from about 1854. http://www.history.portage.oh.us/about.html At Akron U. and PCHS you'll be asked the Western Reserve Range and Township number for the township you want to research. For instance, Franklin Township is Range 9, Town 3. They can look this up for you, but if you know it before you walk in, they'll be impressed! Some tax duplicate microfilms are in the LDS catalog and can be ordered though LDS family history centers. http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHC/frameset_fhc.asp? PAGE=library_fhc_find.asp If you find out more about what resources are available in county offices in Ravenna, please let us know! I've had more luck with the other places than with the county. I should add that there is a county archives (and archivist) in the basement of the law building, adjacent to the administration building (former hospital).
